Location

The exhaust gas recirculation cooler is located below between the two cylinder heads.

Task

The exhaust gas recirculation cooler lowers the temperature of the exhaust gases passed over the left exhaust gas recirculation positioner (Y27/9) (except model 461) or the exhaust gas recirculation positioner (Y27/9) (model 461). Temperature lowering produces a greater density of exhaust gases. This increases the exhaust gas recirculation rate and the nitrogen oxide (NOX ) emission is lowered.

IMPORTANT In model 211.022 with OM 642.920 and code (494) USA version, in model 211.022/222 with OM 642.920 and code (498) Japan version and in model 211.024 with OM 642.920, the exhaust gas recirculation cooler has 12 cooling ducts instead of the nine cooling ducts so far. Likewise, on model 164.1/8 and on model 251.0/1 with code (494) USA version, the exhaust gas recirculation cooler has 12 cooling ducts instead of the nine cooling ducts so far.
