Location

One air shutoff valve is located at the front of the engine for each cylinder head.

Task

The air shutoff valves open the route for the injected air into the outlet ducts of the cylinder heads.

When the electrical air pump is switched off (M33), the air shutoff valves prevent the induction of air into the outlet ducts, as a result of the flow of the exhaust gases.

Function

The air shutoff valves are opened via the air pump switchover valve (Y32) by a vacuum or closed through ventilation. The injected air to the electric air pump can thus flow through the opened air shutoff valves.

When the electric air pump is switched off, the check valve prevents the admission of exhaust gas to the vacuum diaphragm and thus protects it from dirt and thermal destruction.
