Riveting the timing chain - AR05.10-P-7601-02VA

IMPORTANT When carrying out work on the timing case recess, safeguard this with a clean cloth to prevent items dropping down. Parts which have fallen into the timing case recess, must be removed.

Press the riveted link into the press-fit center plate 

  1. SPECIAL TOOL Place the assembly insert (F11) in SPECIAL TOOL the rivet press tool (01) and fix in place with the mounting screw.
  2. SPECIAL TOOL Place the assembly insert (D12) in SPECIAL TOOL the rivet press tool (01).

  3. Insert the riveted link (1), the centering fork (03) and the press-fit center plate (2) into the ends of the timing chain (4), and press the pins of the centering fork (03) into the holes of the press-fit center plate (2) and center the press-fit center plate (2).

    IMPORTANT Insert riveted link (1) from the rear.

  4. SPECIAL TOOL Screw in the pressure screw (02) at the SPECIAL TOOL rivet press tool (01), and press the riveted link (1) into the press-fit center plate (2) all the way to the backstop.

    IMPORTANT Ensure that the riveted link (1) and the SPECIAL TOOL rivet press tool (01) are aligned. While screwing in the SPECIAL TOOL pressure screw (02) ensure that the pins of the riveted link (1) are pressed into the holes of the press-fit center plate (2), and that the centering fork (03) that has been squeezed out does not fall into the timing case recess.

  5. SPECIAL TOOL Remove the pressure screw (02) and take off the SPECIAL TOOL rivet press tool (01).

  6. Press the outer plate on the riveted link 

  7. SPECIAL TOOL Place the assembly insert (F401) in SPECIAL TOOL the rivet press tool (01) and fix in place with the mounting screw.
  8. SPECIAL TOOL Place the assembly insert (01D3) in SPECIAL TOOL the rivet press tool (01).

  9. Insert the outer plate (3) into the SPECIAL TOOL assembly insert (D3).

    IMPORTANT The outer plate (3) is held magnetically.

  10. SPECIAL TOOL Place the rivet press tool (01) in such a way that the spacer webs of the SPECIAL TOOL assembly insert (F4) lies on the rolls of the timing chain (4).

    IMPORTANT Ensure that the riveted link (1) and the outer plate (3) are aligned.

  11. Screw in the SPECIAL TOOL pressure screw (02) at the SPECIAL TOOL rivet press tool (01) until there is solid resistance.

    IMPORTANT While turning the SPECIAL TOOL pressure screw (02), ensure that the pins of the riveted link (1) are pressed into the outer plate (3).

  12. SPECIAL TOOL Remove rivet press tool (01).

  13. Rivet timing chain 

  14. SPECIAL TOOL Shift the assembly insert (D3) on the riveted section (arrow).

  15. SPECIAL TOOL Place the rivet press tool (01) in the center of a riveted link (1) pin.

    IMPORTANT Rivet the pins of the riveted link (1) individually.

  16. SPECIAL TOOL Tighten the pressure screw (02) at the SPECIAL TOOL rivet press tool (01).

    IMPORTANT Tightening torque of the SPECIAL TOOL pressure screw (02): reference value 32 Nm.

  17. SPECIAL TOOL Remove rivet press tool (01).

  18. INSPECT Inspect riveting (arrows), re-rivet if necessary.
