Remove, install hydraulic valve clearance compensating elements - AR05.00-P-2011AMG (ML63 AMG)

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install    
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by fingers being pinched or crushed  when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lids, tailgates or sliding roof. Keep body parts and limbs well clear of moving parts. AS00.00-Z-0011-01A
1 Open engine hood and raise to vertical position Model 216, 221  
    Model 164 AR88.40-P-1000GZ
    Model 209 AR88.40-P-1000Q
    Model 211 AR88.40-P-1000T
    Model 219 AR88.40-P-1000TX
    Model 251 AR88.40-P-1000RT
2 Remove camshafts Up to engine number 001177 AR05.20-P-6992ANG 
    from engine number 001178 AR05.20-P-6992AMG 
3 Remove the compensating element (2) of the respective cylinder using a sucker (1) NOTES Do not use a magnet!
The friction surface of the compensating element would otherwise be magnetized. This may cause minute iron debris to gather which can result in damage to the compensating element and cam.
IMPORTANT Reinstall compensation elements at the same place if they have not been replaced.
COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE TOOLS Suction
 
4 Inspect the basic bore of the hydraulic valve play compensating element IMPORTANT Check surface of basic bore for score marks and damage and replace cylinder head if necessary, see: ↓
Remove cylinder head
 
    Model 164, 251 AR01.30-P-5800GZS
    Model 209, 211, 219 AR01.30-P-5800TMG
    Model 216, 221 AR01.30-P-5800SMG
5 Install in the reverse order    
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

6 Carry out engine test run
