Component description for a coolant temperature sensor - GF07.04-P-6040AMG
ENGINE 156.980 in MODEL 164, 251
ENGINE 156.982 in MODEL 209
ENGINE 156.983 in MODEL 211, 219
ENGINE 156.984 in MODEL 216, 221
Location
The temperature sensor is located at the front on the right cylinder head.
Function
The NTC resistor integrated in the temperature sensor alters its electrical resistance in line with the coolant temperature. The ME control unit (N3/10) analyzes voltage signal produced in line with the coolant temperature.
NTC means "N egative Temperature Coefficient", which means: The electrical resistance falls as the temperature rises (heat conductor).
Example:
VOLTAGE SIGNAL REFERENCE
| Coolant temperature | Resistance value | Voltage signal |
|---|---|---|
| 20°C | 3123Ω | 0, 312 V |
| 60°C | 632Ω | 0, 063 V |
| 120°C | 101Ω | 0, 010 V |
