Remove/install front end cross member - AR62.30-P-2300GZ

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install    
NOTES Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   AH00.00-N-0001-01A
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by fingers being pinched or crushed  when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lids, tailgates or sliding roof. Keep body parts and limbs well clear of moving parts. AS00.00-Z-0011-01A
1 Open engine hood and raise to vertical position IMPORTANT After closing the engine hood, check whether it locks properly; for this purpose, pull engine hood upward with a jerk. AR88.40-P-1000GZ
2 Remove seal (9) in area of radiator cross member (8).    
3 Remove bolts (1) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA62.30-P-1001-03B 
4 Remove bolt (2) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA62.30-P-1001-03B 
5 Disconnect electrical connectors (3) from signal horns.    
6 Disconnect electrical connector on radar sensor of intelligent cruise control IMPORTANT Only for model 164 with Distronic (DTR), code 219.  
7 Remove retaining clips (4)    
8 Remove screws (5) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA62.30-P-1002-03B 
9 Remove spreading rivets (6)    
10 Raise radiator cross member (8) slightly and unclip release cable from right-hand hood latch from retaining clamps (7)    
11 Remove radiator cross member (8)    
12 Remove lock pawl IMPORTANT Only when replacing radiator crossmember (8).  
13 Remove retaining clips (7) IMPORTANT Only when replacing radiator crossmember (8).  
14 Remove signal horns IMPORTANT Only when replacing radiator crossmember (8).  
15 Remove distronic sensor (DTR) from intelligent cruise control IMPORTANT Only when replacing radiator crossmember (8) and only on vehicles with Distronic (DTR), code 219.
IMPORTANT Previously mark installation position of distronic sensor (DTR) at the three adjustment bolts.

16 Install in the reverse order    
17 Check function of hood latch, if necessary adjust lock pawl    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Check the lock and latch hooks of engine hood   AP88.40-P-8851GZ
18 Attach danger warning to radiator cross member (8) IMPORTANT Only when replacing radiator crossmember (8).  
19 Check distronic sensor adjustment (DTR), adjust if applicable. IMPORTANT Only for model 164 with Distronic (DTR), code 219. AR30.30-P-1000R
