Remove/install rear axle speed sensor - AR42.30-P-0714AA

MODEL 463.202 /222 /237 /243 /244 /245 /246 /247 /249 /250 /254 /303 /309 /322 /323 /332 /333 /340 /341 with disk brake 

MODEL 463.236 /248 except CODE (979) Special protection version with drum brake

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  caused by swallowing battery acid. Risk of injury  caused by burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A
1 Activate service mode in Telematic Alarm Identification on Demand (emergency call system) (TELE AID) Only on model 463.243/244/245/250/309/322/323/332/333 with code (ET2) Tele Aid - car telephone emergency call system, model 463.247/248/254 up to 1.4.07 with code (ET2) Tele Aid - car telephone emergency call system AR82.95-P-0005-03GR

3 Remove rear wheel. TORQUE SPECIFICATION Wheel bolt, sheet-steel disk wheel *BA40.10-P-1001-03A 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Wheel bolt, light-alloy disk wheel *BA40.10-P-1002-03A 
4 Pull left rear rpm sensor (L6/3) or right rear rpm sensor (L6/4) carefully out of the bushing in the brake carrier (1) NOTESInstallation:  Set distance between measuring ring and left rear rpm sensor (L6/3) or right rear rpm sensor (L6/4) through moving it. Failing to do so may result in malfunctions or total failure in or to the antilock brake system (ABS) or the Electronic Stability Program (ESP).  
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Clean bushing in brake carrier (1). Insert left rear rpm sensor (L6/3) or right rear rpm sensor (L6/4) and adjust distance between measuring ring and left rear rpm sensor (L6/3) or right rear rpm sensor (L6/4). *BE42.30-P-1001-01A 
INSPECT Checking     
5 Check measuring ring of wheel hub for signs of damage Model 463 with rear axle 741, 742 except rear axle 741.52, rear axle with brake system, ABS
IMPORTANT Replace damaged measuring ring, refer to: REMOVE/INSTALL ABS MEASURING RING
 
Model 463 with rear axle 741 (except 741.52/53)
Rear axle with ABS brake system Model 463 with rear axle 742 rear axle with ABS brake system
Remove/install ABS measuring ring

6 Remove bronze sleeve (2). IMPORTANTInstallation:  Press bronze sleeve (2) slightly together.  
7 Remove load compartment relay module. Model 463.202/222/237/243/244/245/ 246/247/249/250/254/303/309/322/ 323/332/333/340/341, Model 463.236/248 except code (979) Special protection version AR54.15-P-1265GR
8 Disconnect frame connector 22-pin (X92/3) IMPORTANT The frame connector (22-pin) (X92/3) is located in the load space toolbox.  
9 Detach connectors in load space toolbox    
10 Remove water shield   AR61.30-P-0010A
11 Guide harness (4) through floor opening (5).    
12 Detach harness attachments underneath the vehicle.    
13 Remove holder for electrical lines of left rear rpm sensor (L6/3) or right rear rpm sensor (L6/4)    
14 Detach electrical lines of left rear rpm sensor (L6/3) or the right rear rpm sensor (L6/4) from the wiring harness IMPORTANTInstallation:  Use new friction tape.  
15 Remove electrical lines of left rear rpm sensor (L6/3) or the right rear rpm sensor (L6/4) from frame connector (22-pin) (X92/3) IMPORTANT Remove pins 19, 20, 21 and 22.  
16 Remove left rear rpm sensor (L6/3) or right rear rpm sensor (L6/4) with electrical lines IMPORTANTInstallation:  Pay attention to correct line routing.  
17 Install in the reverse order    
18 Deactivate service mode in Tele-Aid emergency call system Only on model 463.243/244/245/250/309/ 322/323/332/333 with code (ET2) Tele Aid - car telephone emergency call system, model 463.247/248/254 up to 1.4.07 with code (ET2) Tele Aid - car telephone emergency call system AR82.95-P-0005-03GR

19 Read out and erase fault memory IMPORTANT Stored faults which may be caused by assembly work, test work, removed lines or a simulation, must be processed and erased in fault memories after completing the work.  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory   AD00.00-P-2000-04A
