Location 

The radio is located in the center console.

Task 

The radio has the following tasks:

• Central control and display device for entertainment and communications systems integrated into vehicle
• Reads in the controls and input signals
• Evaluating input factors
• Actuates output media

The radio provides the user with a structured and uniform interface.

Reads in the controls and input signals 

The input factors are read in via the following connections:

• Direct lines
• Controller Area Network (bus/CAN bus)

The radio consists of the following direct connections:

• Circuit 30
• Circuit 31
• Telephone MUTE
• Bluetooth antenna (A2/91)
• Microphone SBS (B25/7)
• AUX input (access in glove box)

The radio is a subscriber on the Controller Area Network bus, class B (interior) (CAN B). It communicates with the following components, for example:

• Instrument cluster (A1)
• EIS [EZS] control unit (N73)
• Steering column tube module (N80)

Evaluation of input factors 

The input values are processed in the radio.

Actuates output media 

The following direct output signals are possible:

• Audio Out (speaker) to following speakers:
• Left front door speaker group (H4/1)
• Right front door speaker group (H4/2)
• Left rear door speaker group (H4/3)
• Right rear door speaker group (H4/4)
• Bass box speaker (H4/17)

Provision of structured and uniform interface for the following system components:

• Audio system (e.g. radio, Compact Disk (CD) (also MPEG-1 audio layer 3 (MP3)), AUX)
• Communication system (e.g. telephone with telephone book function)
• Sound settings (z. B bass, treble, fader, balance)
• System settings (e.g. brightness and contrast of display
• Evaluation of signals from interior CAN-B

The radio generates a structured and uniform interface which is shown on the radio display.

Front view and button assignment 

Function 

The buttons on the radio are read in and the signals made available to the integrated central computer. Button actuation is processed further in the central computer. A radio can be switched On and Off with the On/Off button. The volume is regulated by turning the volume setting button for each set audio source. The user can switch to the required system component by pressing the menu buttons.

Single slot CD drive 

The integrated single slot CD drive can be used to play audio CDs (including MP3 format).
