The driver-side SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) is the master control unit for the exterior lights (ABL). The rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) is the master control unit for all turn signal indicator functions.

The following control units are linked by network to each other over the Controller Area Network bus class B (interior) (CAN-B):

• Driver-side SAM control unit
• right SAM control unit (N10/11)
• Rear SAM control unit
• Rear-end door control unit (N111) (with model 211.2)
• Left front door control unit (N69/1)
• Right front door control unit (N69/2)
• Trailer connection unit [AAG] control unit (N28/1) (with code (550) Trailer hitch)

Actuations 

The xenon headlamp control units (E1n1, E2n1) are linked by network over the Controller Area Network bus class D (diagnosis) (CAN-D) with the central gateway control unit (N93).

The central gateway control unit detects the requests issued by the driver-side SAM control unit over CAN-B and makes them available to the xenon headlamp control units on CAN-D.

  • Left high beam (E1e1)
  • Left standing and parking lamp (E1e3)
  • Left turn signal lamp (E1e5)
  • Left front fog lamp (E5/1)
  • Left front side-marker lamp (E6/1)
  • Right front side-marker lamp (E6/2)
• Front passenger-side SAM control unit:
  • Right high beam (E2e1)
  • Right standing and parking lamp (E2e3)
  • Right turn signal lamp (E2e5)
  • Right front fog lamp (E5/2)
• Left door control unit:
  • Left outside mirror turn signal lamp (E6/5)
• Right door control unit:
  • Right outside mirror turn signal lamp (E6/6)
• Xenon headlamp control unit on left front lamp unit (E1):
  • Left bi-xenon lamp with integral ignition module (E1e10) In accordance with requested lights function over local interconnect network (LIN):
  • Left headlamp range adjustment motor (E1m1) with code (621) Intelligent Light System (left-hand traffic) or code (622) Intelligent Light System (right-hand traffic):
  • Left dynamic curve illumination motor (E1m2)
  • Left light distribution cylinder motor (E1m3)
• Xenon headlamp control unit on right front lamp unit (E2):
  • Right bi-xenon lamp with integral ignition module (E2e10) In accordance with requested lights function over LIN:
  • Right headlamp range adjustment motor (E2m1) with code (621) Intelligent Light System (left-hand traffic) or code (622) Intelligent Light System (right-hand traffic):
  • Right dynamic curve illumination motor (E2m2)
  • Right light distribution cylinder motor (E2m3)
