Remove/install COMAND APS hard disk - AR82.85-P-1001A

MODEL 164, 169, 171, 211, 219, 230, 245, 251 as of model year 2009 with CODE (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer with CODE (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) except CODE (830) China version except CODE (498) Japan version 

MODEL 203.7 with CODE (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) with CODE (044) New Telematics Generation NTG 2.5 except CODE (830) China version except CODE (498) Japan version 

MODEL 463 with CODE (EU1) COMAND, APS except CODE (ZU9) China version except CODE (ZJ1) Japan version

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
NOTES Information on preventing damage to electronic components due to electrostatic discharge   AH54.00-P-0001-01A
    IMPORTANT The following faults mean that the hard disk (2) has to be replaced:
  • System only starts up to star before automatically switching off again
  • Permanent fault messages such as:
    • Navigation unavailable
    • Drive unavailable
  • Music register nonfunctional
  • Fault code 94D9:
    • Hard disk malfunction
 
1 Perform initial startup of hard disk (2) on COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) using Star Diagnosis When replacing hard disk (2). AD00.00-P-2000-04A
2 Remove the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) Model 164 AR82.60-P-7502GZ
Models 169, 245 AR82.85-P-1000AK
Model 171 AR82.85-P-1000V
Model 203.7 AR82.85-P-7472PA
Model 211 AR82.85-P-1000T 
Model 219 AR82.60-P-7502TY
Model 230 AR82.85-P-7472RA

3 Place COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) onto an electrostatic discharge (ESD) workstation NOTES Otherwise damage may occur to the electronics of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) or the hard disk (2).

4 Remove bolts (1)    
5 Remove hard disk (2) upwards (arrow) NOTES Avoid touching the conductor tracks on the circuit board, as otherwise damage may occur to the electronics of the hard disk (2) or to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3).  
6 Install in the reverse order    
7 Update map data for navigation system Model 164, 169, 171, 219, 230, 245, 251 up t model year 2011
