Gear recognition sensor, location The gear recognition sensor (B56/1) is bolted to the top of the manual transmission.  
Gear recognition sensor function Registers the position of the shift rod in the transmission based on its longitudinal and rotational motion, and relays this detected position to the automated manual transmission control module (N15/6) in the form of two analog signals.
