REMOVING Removing
DANGER Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  caused by brake fluid coming into contact with skin and eyes. Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A
NOTES Notes on repairs to brake system   AH42.00-P-0003-01A
NOTES Brake fluid notes   AH42.50-P-0001-01A
1 Switch off ignition
2 Remove cover (1) on reservoir (7)
CLEAN Clean
3 Clean the area around the reservoir (7) thoroughly NOTES Before opening the brake system the area around the separation point should be cleaned thoroughly. Even the smallest particles of dirt, introduced into the hydraulic components, can lead to malfunctions and a total failure of the brake system.
Only use clean, lint free rags and cleaner free of mineral oil. Do not use any compressed-air for cleaning when the brake system is open.

4 Release and detach connector (5) of brake fluid check switch (S11) NOTES Store connector (5) in a protected place. There must be no ingress of brake fluid.
5 Unscrew cap (2) and remove strainer from reservoir (7) NOTES Rinse off any escaped brake fluid immediately with water in order to prevent paint damage.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA42.50-P-1001-01D
6 Mark fill level on reservoir (7) and extract brake fluid
7 Detach hydraulic lines (3a, 3b) to reservoir (7) IMPORTANT Seal connections immediately. Position hydraulic lines (3a, 3b) upwards, to ensure that no brake fluid escapes or to prevent air entering the hydraulic lines (3a, 3b).
SPECIAL TOOL *129589009100
8 Detach hydraulic line (4) to reservoir (7) Vehicles with transmission 716, except vehicles with code (424) Sequentronic automated manual transmission (ASG)
IMPORTANT Seal off connection immediately. Position hydraulic line (4) upwards to prevent any brake fluid escaping or air from getting into the hydraulic line (4).

9 Remove screw (6)
10 Pull reservoir (7) out of the brake operating unit (BOU) (8) NOTES The openings of the brake operating unit (BOU) (8) must always be filled with brake fluid up to the edge. Even the smallest particles of dirt, introduced into the hydraulic components, can lead to malfunctions and a total failure of the brake system.
INSTALLING Install
11 Mount the reservoir (7) onto the brake operating unit (BOU) (8) IMPORTANTInstallation:  The seals do not have a collar and they may be pressed out of the brake operating unit (BOU) (8) when mounting the reservoir (7).
Position reservoir (7) vertically onto brake operating unit (BOU) (8) while simultaneously pressing in the seal at the front and rear.

12 Fit screw (6) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA42.46-P-1002-02A
13 Fit hydraulic line (4) Vehicles with transmission 716, except vehicles with code (424) Sequentronic automated manual transmission (ASG)
14 Fit hydraulic lines (3a, 3b)
15 Fill the reservoir (7) with brake fluid to 10 mm below the top edge on the filler neck NOTES Pour in the brake fluid by hand. Do not use a bleeder unit so that no air gets into the brake system.
IMPORTANT Fill reservoir (7) correctly because the overflows to the individual chambers are located right at the top at the reservoir upper shell.

16 Mount plug (5)
17 Press together the hydraulic line (3b) on the SBC hydraulic unit (A7/3) approx. 5 times IMPORTANT To press any remaining air out of the hydraulic line (3b).
18 Press together the hydraulic line (4) as far as possible at the bottom approx. 5-times Vehicles with transmission 716, except vehicles with code (424) Sequentronic automated manual transmission (ASG)
IMPORTANT To press any remaining air out of the hydraulic line (4).

19 Correct fill level in reservoir (7) up to marking
INSPECT Checking
20 Check leaktightness of connecting points of hydraulic lines (3b, 4) IMPORTANT Connect electrical brake fluid changer/bleeder unit and apply the maximum filling pressure (2.5 to 3.0 bar) statically for 10 minutes. Afterwards check the hydraulic line (3b, 4) most accurately  for leaks at the connecting points (use paper handkerchief). The smallest drips are already an indication of a leak!
Brake fluid change unit with supply tank (10-20 l) gotis://B_42/43.2_01.1
IMPORTANT A visual inspection on its own is not adequate, because minuscule leaks which are not detectable at first glance, can also lead to malfunctions of the brake system.
