Converting front bumper - AZ88.00-P-0001-02SC

Model 216 up to model year 2011 

IMPORTANT Check components removed from standard bumper before assembly and replace if damaged.

NOTES Pay attention to paint damage.

  1. Insert fitting sleeves (2) into mounting holes of front bumper paneling (1) (see arrow).

  2. Insert sheet metal nuts for front fog lamps (3) (8 each) and air ducting grate (4) (6 each) into front bumper paneling (1) (see picture).

  3. Insert front basic carrier (5) into front bumper paneling (1) at right and left.
  4. Fasten front bumper basic carrier (5) on right and left into front bumper paneling (1) with four expansion rivets (6) each and a spring clip (7).
  5. Insert reinforcements (8) on right and left into front bumper paneling (1) and fasten with four spring clips (9) each.

  6. Insert reinforcements (8) on right and left into front bumper basic carrier (5) with two expansion rivets (6) each.

  7. Install HCS springs (headlamp cleaning system) (10) on bearing guides of HCS cover (11).
  8. Insert HCS cover (11) from front into front bumper paneling (1) and attach bearing guides on HCS cover (11) on journals of front bumper basic carrier (5) (see arrow).

    IMPORTANT Ensure that HCS cover (11) is seated correctly on front bumper paneling (1).

  9. Insert mounting plates (12) into center impact absorber (13) and fix in place.
  10. Insert center impact absorber (13) into front bumper paneling (1).

    Vehicles with Parktronic system (PTS) code 220 

  11. Clip outer left front PTS ultrasonic sensor (B8/1), center left front PTS ultrasonic sensor (B8/2), inner left front PTS ultrasonic sensor (B8/3), inner right front PTS ultrasonic sensor (B8/4), center right front PTS ultrasonic sensor (B8/5) and outer right front PTS ultrasonic sensor (B8/6) into brackets on front bumper paneling (1).
  12. Route PTS wiring harness into front bumper basic carrier (5) and center impact absorber (13) as shown in picture and fix in place at specified attachment points (circles).

    IMPORTANT Previously check whether a decoupling ring (transparent silicon ring) is installed on all PTS ultrasonic sensors.

  13. Arrest front bumper PTS connector (X26/27) in front bumper basic carrier (5) on right.

  14. Insert outer impact absorber (14) on right and left into front bumper basic carrier (5) and arrest (see arrow).

    IMPORTANT The outer impact absorbers (14) should arrest properly in the front bumper basic carriers (5).

  15. Insert reinforcement (15) into front bumper paneling (1), arrest and fasten with two expansion rivets (6).

    IMPORTANT The reinforcement (15) should arrest properly in the front bumper paneling (1) (see arrows).

  16. Insert center lower impact absorber (16) into front bumper paneling (1).

  17. Insert lower basic carrier (17) into front bumper paneling (1) and arrest (see arrows).

    IMPORTANT The lower basic carrier (17) should arrest properly in the front bumper paneling (1).

  18. Fasten lower basic carrier (17) on right and left in front bumper paneling (1) with two expansion rivets (6) each.

  19. Hook check strap on towing eye cover (18) into front bumper paneling (1).
  20. Insert towing eye cover (18) into front bumper paneling (1) and arrest.

    IMPORTANT The towing eye cover (18) should arrest correctly in the front bumper paneling (1).

  21. Check whether seal (28) on left front fog lamp (E5/1) and right front fog lamp (E5/2) are seated correctly and close if necessary.
  22. Connect AMG wiring harness (27) for front fog lamp each to left front fog lamp (E5/1) and right front fog lamp (E5/2).

    IMPORTANT The left front fog lamp (E5/1) and right front fog lamp (E5/2) differ and are marked according to the vehicle side (arrows), the AMG wiring harness (27) for the front fog lamp should point toward the outside in the installed state.

  23. Insert left front fog lamp (E5/1) and right front fog lamp (E5/2) from front into front into front bumper paneling (1), align and fasten with 4.2 13 tapping screws (19).

    IMPORTANT The adjusting screw should be positioned at bottom.

    IMPORTANT Shown on left front fog lamp (E5/2).

    IMPORTANT Tighten 4.2X13 sheet metal screws (19) to torque of 3.5 Nm.

  24. Insert outer air ducting grate (20) on left and right into front bumper paneling (1), align and fasten with three tapping screws (21) each.

    IMPORTANT Tighten sheet metal screws (21) to torque of 2 Nm.

  25. Protective foils (24) on front bumper paneling (1).
    • Moisten surface to be glued with soapy water.
    • Remove protective foils (24) from backing sheet and lay on surface to be glued.
    • Align protective foils (24) and smooth.
    • Hold protective foils (24) in this position and carefully press remaining soapy water out from below protective foils (24).

    IMPORTANT The area to be glued on the front bumper paneling (1) must be free of dust and grease. For cleaning use mixture of IPA (Isopropanol alcohol) and water with a ratio of 50 : 50.

    IMPORTANT The protective foils (24) are coded by shape, they only fit between the corresponding intermediate spaces.

  26. Position license plate frame (25) outside of front bumper paneling (1) and prepare for assembly.

    IMPORTANT Use license plate frame (25) as template for marking holes. The distances (a and b) between the license plate frame (25) and the measuring points should be equal. The inner ultrasonic sensors, distance (a) or the center air passage outer struts, distance (b) serve as measuring points depending on the equipment. Align license plate frame (25) along contour of front bumper paneling (1).

  27. Drill four holes for installation license plate frame (25) and fasten license plate frame (25) to front bumper paneling (1) using four bolts.

    IMPORTANT Tighten bolts only with screwdriver.

    After installing front bumper paneling. 

  28. Insert center air inlet grate (26) into front bumper paneling (1).
