Oil pump, component description - GF27.57-P-1010GZ
TRANSMISSION 722.9 in MODEL 164.1/8, 204.0, 216, 221, 251.0/1 up to Model Year 8
Location
The oil pump (crescent-type pump) is installed in the torque converter housing behind the torque converter and is driven via the drive flange of the torque converter.
Task
The production of the necessary oil pressure for the hydraulic sequences.
Design
An external gear mounted eccentrically in the pump housing is located on the internal gear connected with the drive flange. The crescent guides the outer gear wheel.
Function
When the engine is running the oil is delivered through the suction chamber along the upper and lower side of the crescent to the pressure chamber of the housing. The meshing of the teeth prevents oil from flowing from the pressure side to the suction side.
