Function

The selector lever is moved and positioned in the shift gate, which is not visible to the driver. All selector lever positions are detected by the electronic selector lever module control unit, coded and transmitted to the electronic transmission control unit (N15/3) via the drive train CAN.

Parallel to being transmitted via the drive train CAN, the selector lever positions "P", "R", "N" and "D" are also transmitted mechanically to the selection range sensor (Y3/8s1) by means of a shift rod.

The shift ranges "1", "2", "3", "4", "5" and "6" up to which the fully integrated transmission control (VGS) permits an automatic transmission upshift, can be shifted via a sideways movement of the selector lever in selector lever position "D" (touch shift).
