Location

The emergency tensioning retractor unit is integrated in the particular front automatic belt retractors. They are located on the B-pillar on the left and right side of the vehicle.

Task

The emergency tensioning retractor unit removes the seat belt slack in the event of a frontal impact or a rear end collision and prevents the film reel effect of the driver or front passenger seat belt from occurring. The close-fitting seat belt means that vehicle occupants are exposed to the deceleration forces acting on the body at an earlier stage.

The emergency tensioning retractor squibs are activated by the supplemental restraint system control unit (N2/10).
