Location

The dew point sensor is located in the air intake of the air conditioning housing.

Task

The dew point sensor is used to detect the air humidity of the drawn in outside air and thus to better control the evaporator temperature. When the outside air is humid, the evaporator temperature is regulated to a lower setting than when the outside air is dry to improve the dehumidification output. Thus, the interior climate is perceived as more pleasant. Because the power consumption is lower when the air is dry, fuel consumption is reduced as well.

Design

The dew point sensor comprises the following elements:

Function

The dew point sensor measures the air humidity of the drawn in air and forwards this measurement to the automatic air conditioning control and operating unit (N22/7) via the climate control LIN (LIN B8) so that this can regulate an interior climate which is not too dry based on demand.

The calculated measurement is also placed on the interior CAN (CAN B) by the control and operating unit. The left front door control unit (N69/1) and the right front door control unit (N69/2) read in this value to implement an ideally adjusted heated outside mirror.
