Bed in parking brake according to instructions - AP42.20-P-4290-01BA

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2011 Mercedes-Benz C300, 2010 Mercedes-Benz C300, 2009 Mercedes-Benz C300, and 2008 Mercedes-Benz C300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
DANGER Risk of death caused by limbs being caught or crushed by rotating parts when performing tests on the brake test stand Never leave the vehicle unattended on the rollers except in an emergency. Ensure that no one is under the vehicle or near rotating parts during testing. In case of emergency, use the EMERGENCY STOP switch to shut down test stand. AS42.00-Z-0001-01A
IMPORTANT Notes on assessment and evaluation of brake tests on test stands AH42.00-P-0004-01A
  1. Move vehicle with rear axle into roller brake test stand.
  2. On the roller brake test stand, apply the parking brake in such a way that the wheels do not lock up by actuating the pedal or hand lever of the parking brake for approx. 2 minutes.

NOTES On model 164 and 251, the brake break-in procedure on each axle must not last longer than ≈ 10 seconds, otherwise the drive train or brake system could be damaged.

IMPORTANT During the parking brake break-in procedure, the catch of the pedal or hand lever must not lock in position.

  3. Allow parking brake to cool down while not actuated.

IMPORTANT When the parking brake heats up, its braking effect declines. The bedding-in procedure can be repeated when the parking brake has cooled.

  4. Determine brake values, control force and actuating travel for parking brake and document

IMPORTANT Operate parking brake uniformly. The maximum value prior to the wheels locking up is to be documented. The control force and actuating travel on the parking brake are to be documented at maximum value.

In the event of brake-fluid fluctuations or a pulsating parking brake, determine the reason and rectify subject to separate repair order.

  5. Evaluate documented brake values.

IMPORTANT If the specified minimum requirements and tolerance limits for the brake system scopes to be tested are not complied with, this must be rejected and rectified subject to separate repair order, after a conducted diagnosis and the corresponding findings.
