Remove/install airbag unit on steering wheel - AR91.60-P-0660CW

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by performing testing or repair work on airbag or emergency tensioning retractor units Store airbag units with deployment side facing up; do not expose to temperatures greater than 100°C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply. AS91.00-Z-0001-01A
NOTES Notes on performing repair, body work and welding on vehicles with airbags or emergency tensioning retractor units   AH91.00-P-0002-01M
IMPORTANT Assessment of airbag and emergency tensioning retractor units in accident vehicles   AH91.00-P-0006-01B
IMPORTANT Legal regulations on handling and storing airbags and emergency tensioning retractor units   AH91.00-P-0004-01A
1 Place steering column in the central height position    
2 Disconnect ground line for on-board electrical system battery (G1)   AR54.10-P-0003CW
3 Insert screwdriver bit into openings (arrows) on steering wheel (2) and unscrew bolts on driver sidebag unit (1) IMPORTANT The screws remain on the steering wheel (2).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION
*BA91.60-P-1005-01M 
    SPECIAL TOOL Screwdriver bit Fig 2
4 Remove driver airbag unit (1) far enough from steering wheel (2) so that electrical connectors (5, 6, 7) are accessible    
5 Disconnect electrical connectors (7) Only with code (428) Steering wheel shift paddles.  
REFER TO COMPONENT MODIFICATIONS Coding on coupling housing changed   BT54.18-P-0002-01CW
6 Disconnect electrical connector (6)    
7 Release lock tabs (4) and disconnect electrical connectors (5) NOTES Never disconnect electrical connectors (3) with electrical connectors (5) connected, because otherwise the driver airbag unit (1) may be triggered.  
    SPECIAL TOOL Removal lever
IMPORTANTInstallation:  The electrical connectors (5) must audibly engage when being plugged onto driver airbag squib 1 (R12/13) and driver airbag squib 2 (R12/14).

8 Disconnect driver airbag unit (1) from steering wheel (2) IMPORTANT If driver airbag unit (1) is being replaced, the defective driver airbag unit (1) must be disposed of properly.

9 Install in the reverse order    
10 Check supplemental restraint system (SRS) with STAR DIAGNOSIS IMPORTANT After replacing the driver airbag unit (1).  
  Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory   AD00.00-P-2000-04A
