Volume/tone adjustments, function - GF82.60-P-2003CW

Function requirements 

General 

All volume and tone settings are performed using the radio (A2). This happens either automatically through the radio, e.g. through the speed-dependent volume control (SDV [GAL]) or the dynamic range optimization (DRO), or by the user. The volume and sound setting function can be conducted as follows:

IMPORTANT Along with the general tone settings the radio can also control, e.g. bass, treble, balance and faders, over extended tone settings. These are:

Operating instructions 

The volume and tone can be set using the following components:

IMPORTANT The volume and tone settings are shown on the Audio/ COMAND display (A40/8). Predefined settings can be selected and reset to the manufacturer default setting via the system settings.

Function sequence for general volume setting and general, extended tone settings over the multifunction steering wheel button groups 

Pressing the + and - button for adjustment of specific functions and volume control (S111s1) enables the volume for the desired audio function to be increased or reduced.

Selecting the "Sound" menu using the multifunction steering wheel button groups enables general or extended tone settings to be made. The control signals are forwarded via the following path to the radio:

After evaluating the control signal, the desired settings for vehicles with code (810) Sound system are transmitted over the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) and then emitted at the speaker system.

IMPORTANT For vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the selected settings are processed internally, amplified and then emitted at the speaker system.

Function sequence for general volume setting and general, extended tone settings over the control buttons and radio rotary actuators 

Operating the radio's rotary actuator enables the volume to be raised or lowered for the desired audio function. Pressing the "Tone setting" button on the radio, enables the user to make all the general or extended tone settings. The control signals are read in and evaluated within the radio. The desired settings for vehicles with code (810) Sound system are sent over the MOST to the sound system amplifier control unit and then emitted at the speaker system.

IMPORTANT For vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the selected settings are processed internally, amplified and then emitted at the speaker system.

Function sequence for general volume setting and general, extended tone settings over the Audio/COMAND control panel 

Selecting the "Sound" menu over the Audio/COMAND control panel, enables general or extended tone settings to be made. The control signals of the Audio/COMAND control panel are forwarded over the telematics CAN to the radio.

Function sequence for speed-dependent volume control (SDV), except code (810) Sound system 

The speed-dependent volume control can be used to adapt the volume to the noise level in the vehicle interior. In this case, the speed signal is used as the reference value. This procedure will run automatically. After evaluating the relationship indicator, the audio output is matched to the noise level in the vehicle interior.

Depending on the vehicle speed signal, the radio raises or lowers the output level of the audio signals (speed-dependent volume control). The output signals are forwarded via the following path to the speaker system:

Function sequence for Dynamic Range Optimization (DRO), with code (810) Sound system 

The dynamic range optimization can be used to adjust the volume to the noise level prevalent inside the vehicle. In the process the vehicle speed signal and signal input at the sound system microphone (B25/6) are used as relationship indicators. This procedure will run automatically.

Depending on the noise level the audio signal output level is increased or reduced by the sound system amplifier control unit. The output signals are forwarded via the following path to the speaker system:
