The function description uses the term "master control unit".

General

The user has a facility for managing his SMS messages (e.g. reading or deleting) in the form of the Short Message Service (SMS) application. For this, the SMS messages previously received on the mobile phone as well as the new SMS messages are transmitted to the "master control unit".

The following SMS functions are possible:

The SMS already stored in the mobile phone are transmitted from the mobile phone to the "master control unit" in the following way:

Function sequence for calling up SMS application

The SMS application for managing (e.g. reading or deleting) the SMS is selected via the "ComTEL/Telephone" menu item; this takes place with the aid of the telephone button "TEL" on the "master control unit", and is then displayed on the Audio/COMAND display. The control signals from the telephone buttons on the "master control unit" are processed internally. The menu item is displayed on the Audio/COMAND display by the "master control unit" via a low voltage differential signaling (LVDS) line.

Then the SMS entry is called up with the Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9) in the function line of the Audio/COMAND display. The control signals from the Audio/COMAND control panel are forwarded to the "master control unit" via the telematics CAN.
