Remove/install airbag unit on the steering wheel (2009-) - AR91.60-P-0660RA

MODEL 171.4 as of 3.3.08

Danger! Risk of injury Injuries may result when performing testing or repair work on airbag or emergency tensioning retractor units Store airbag units with deployment side facing up; do not expose to temperatures greater than 100 °C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply.
  Adjust driver seat and steering column all the way back  
2 Switch off the ignition and remove the transmitter key from the EIS control unit On vehicles with code (889) Keyless go: Press keyless go start/stop button repeatedly until ignition is switched off. Remove transmitter key from vehicle and store it at a location beyond its transmission range (minimum distance 2 m).
3 Remove brace cover (9) from steering wheel (2) Model 230.470/479
4 Insert screwdriver bit into the openings (arrows) at the back of the steering wheel (2) and unscrew the screws out of the driver airbag unit (1) Screws remain on steering wheel (2). Model 171, 230
5 Remove driver airbag unit (1) from steering wheel (2) until electrical connectors (4) are accessible  
6 Separate electrical connectors (4)  
7 Disconnect electrical plug (5). Pay attention to cable routing in bracket (8).
8 Disconnect electrical connector (6)  
9 Unclip lock tabs (3) and disconnect electrical connectors (7) Installation: The electrical connectors (7) must audibly engage when inserted on driver airbag squib 1 (R12/13) and driver airbag squib 2 (R12/14).
10 Disconnect driver airbag unit (1) from steering wheel (2) If driver airbag unit (1) is being replaced, the defective driver airbag unit (1) must be properly disposed of. Refer to: Notes on disposing of airbag and emergency tensioning retractor units
11 Install in the reverse order  
12 Read out fault memory Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory Read out fault memory Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory
