Remove/install AC housing - AR83.30-P-5200V

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install    
DANGER Risk of explosion  from welding or soldering work on sealed air conditioning system. Risk of poisoning  from inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by contact with liquid refrigerant. Never perform welding work on or near a closed air conditioning system. No smoking or open flames. Wear safety glasses and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated areas. Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been discharged.  
NOTES Protect air conditioning circuit and components from moisture when carrying out repair work All models fitted with air conditioning  
IMPORTANT Notes on handling refrigerant R134a Air conditioning system with refrigerant R134a AH83.30-N-0003-01A 
1 Drain coolant from radiator Model 171.442 AR20.00-P-1142V
    Model 171.456 AR20.00-P-1142VA
    Model 171.473 AR20.00-P-1142PV
2 Discharge air conditioning system IMPORTANTInstallation:  Evacuate, refill air conditioning system and check for proper operation and tightness. AR83.30-P-1760V 
3.1 Remove water collector Model 171.442 AR83.25-P-1402V 
3.2 Remove air cleaner housing Models 171.454/456 AR09.10-P-1150VA
    Model 171.473 AR09.10-P-1150AC
4 Unscrew nuts (2) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA83.30-P-1011-01D 
5 Detach low-pressure line (3) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Renew sealing ring of low-pressure line (3) and wet with compressor oil.  
6 Seal the low-pressure line opening (3) using a suitable sealing cap NOTES The opening of the low-pressure line (3) must be sealed, as otherwise penetrating dirt and moisture can damage the components connected to the refrigerant circuit.  
    COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE TOOLS Set of sealing caps for air conditioning system *WH58.30-Z-1002-27A 
7 Unscrew nut (4) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA83.30-P-1012-01D 
8 Detach high pressure line (5) from expansion valve (6) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Renew sealing ring of high-pressure line (5) and wet with compressor oil.  
9 Use suitable sealing caps or plugs to seal opening of high pressure line (5) and openings of expansion valve (6) NOTES The high pressure line (5) opening and the expansion valve (6) openings must be sealed, since otherwise any penetrating dirt and moisture can damage components connected to the refrigerant circuit.  
    COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE TOOLS Set of sealing plugs for air conditioning system *WH58.30-Z-1002-27A 
10 Release clamp (7) and disconnect heating water feed device (8) IMPORTANT Collect escaping coolant.  
11 Seal connecting pipe of heater water feed device distributor (8) at AC housing (1) with suitable sealing cap IMPORTANT This helps to prevent the interior of the vehicle from being soiled when the AC housing (1) is removed.  
12 Detach hose clamps (9) and detach heater water return hoses (10) IMPORTANT Collect escaping coolant.  
    COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE TOOLS Hose clamp pliers *WH58.30-Z-1020-02A 
13 Seal the connecting pipe of the heater water return hoses (10) on the AC housing (1) using suitable sealing caps IMPORTANT This helps to prevent the interior of the vehicle from being soiled when the AC housing (1) is removed.  
14 Remove instrument panel carrier   AR68.10-P-1111V
15 Unplug electrical connector (11) from blower regulator    
16 Release locking hook (14) on plug (12), slide plug (12) down and remove    
17 Remove condensation water drain hoses (13) from AC housing (1) connecting pipe IMPORTANTInstallation:  Wet the connecting pipe of the condensation water drain hoses (13) on the AC housing (1) using a lubricating fluid. Check the condensation water drain hoses (13) are correctly seated on the AC housing connecting pipes (1).  
    Antifriction agent *BR00.45-Z-1010-06A 
18 Remove AC housing (1) toward rear with assistant and remove from vehicle interior NOTES When removing or installing the vehicle's AC housing (1) always do so with an assistant, in order to avoid any damage to the interior and the AC housing (1).
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Coat seals (15, 16) with liquid lubricant. Grease receptacles (18).
 
    Long-life grease *BR00.45-Z-1001-06A 
    Antifriction agent *BR00.45-Z-1010-06A 
19 Check seals (15, 16, 20) and gaskets (17) for signs of wear; replace if necessary    
20.1 Undo screws (19) and expansion valve (6) as well as any concealed retaining plate IMPORTANT When replacing the seal (16).
NOTESInstallation:  Tighten screws (19) alternately, since the expansion valve (6) will otherwise be tilted on the connecting pipe.
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Replace sealing rings of connecting pipes of expansion valve (6) and wet with compressor oil.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA83.30-P-1002-01D 
21.1 Remove seals (15, 20) and gaskets (17) IMPORTANT When replacing seals (15, 20) and gaskets (17).  
22 Install in the reverse order    
23 Synchronize the actuator motors IMPORTANT Menu option, Actuation, Normalization of actuator motors  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS, read out fault memory   AD00.00-P-2000-04A
