Replacing steering shaft boot - AR46.10-P-0621VA

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install    
NOTES Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   -
1 Extend or pull out adjustable steering column fully    
2.1 Deactivate easy entry/exit Vehicles with memory package (driver seat, steering column, mirrors) code 275
NOTES If the vehicle is equipped with the easy entry and exit feature, this will have to be deactivated first The driver seat and steering wheel move to a different position, when the driver door is opened/closed, see operating instructions. The upper frame will be damaged if the retaining device is installed SPECIAL TOOL

3 Turn steering wheel to center position (front wheels in straight-ahead position) SPECIAL TOOL and fix in place with holding device NOTES On a disengaged steering coupling (25) the steering wheel should not be turned because the spiral contact coil will be destroyed.

4 Open engine hood   AR88.40-P-1000V
5 Unclip the cable of the O2 sensor from the cable bracket (1) and unscrew bolt (2a)    
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer. -
6 Raise vehicle with lifting platform   AR00.60-P-1000V
7 Remove engine compartment paneling   AR61.20-P-1105V
8 Unscrew bolts (2b) and remove heat shield (2) downwards    
9 Detach steering coupling (25) from the lower steering shaft (80a); to do this, unscrew bolt (25a) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA46.10-P-1001-01E 
10 Pull the lower steering shaft (80a) upward to extract it from the steering coupling (25). NOTES Do not use force (hammer blows, excessive leverage) because the lower steering shaft is sensitive to lateral forces and can be damaged as a result.
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Insert lower steering shaft (80a) fully into the steering coupling (25); pay attention to the studs of the steering coupling (25) and groove of the lower steering shaft (arrows).
 
11 Pull locking plate (25f) off the steering coupling (25) while lifting the lug using a suitable tool IMPORTANTInstallation:  Replace locking plate (25f) with self-locking nut. Push on the locking plate (25f) until the lug in the steering coupling (25) latches.  
12 Pull boot (3) out of the firewall and remove from lower steering shaft IMPORTANTInstallation:  Grease boot (3) on the jacket tube in the area of the sealing surface and insert. Ensure that the continuous groove guarantees correct sealing.  
    Klueber Polylub GLY 801 grease *BR00.45-Z-1046-06A 
13 Install in the reverse order
