	Remove/install
	Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts		-
1	Extend or pull out adjustable steering column fully	Needed for separating the steering coupling (25).
2.1	Deactivate easy entry/exit	Vehicles with memory package (driver seat, steering column, mirrors) code 275. If the vehicle is equipped with the easy entry and exit feature, this will have to be deactivated first The driver seat and steering wheel move to a different position, when the driver door is opened/closed, see operating instructions. The upper frame will be damaged if the retaining device is installed	AR54.30-P-1000-02EDV
3	Turn steering wheel to center position (front wheels in straight-ahead position) and fix in place with holding device	On a disengaged steering coupling (25) the steering wheel should not be turned because the spiral contact coil will be destroyed.

5.1	Unclip cable from cable holder (1) and unscrew bolt (2a)	Model 171.454/ 456 /473
	Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.	Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.	-
6	Raise vehicle with lifting platform		AR00.60-P-1000V
7	Remove engine compartment paneling		AR61.20-P-1105V
8.1	Unscrew bolts (2b) and remove heat shield (2) downwards	Model 171.454/ 456 /473
9	Detach steering coupling (25) from the lower steering shaft (80a); to do this, unscrew bolt (25a)		*BA46.10-P-1001-01E
10	Pull the lower steering shaft (80a) upward to extract it from the steering coupling (25.)	Do not use force (hammer blows, excessive leverage) as the lower steering shaft (80a) is sensitive to lateral forces. Installation:  Insert lower steering shaft (80a) all the way into the steering coupling (25); pay attention to the studs of the steering coupling (25) while doing so and the groove of the lower steering shaft (80a) (arrows).
11	Unscrew nut (25c) and pull bolt (25b) out of the steering coupling (25)	Installation:  Replace self-locking nut (25c).

12	Pull steering coupling (25) carefully off control valve of rack-and-pinion steering (23)	Do not use force (hammer blows, severe leverage) as a predetermined fracture point is located on the control valve. If necessary, expand the clamping groove slightly using a screwdriver.
		Installation:  Center the rack-and-pinion steering and mount steering coupling (25)	AR46.20-P-0600-01V
13	Pull locking plate (25f) off the steering coupling (25) while lifting the lug using a suitable tool	Installation:  Replace locking plate (25f) with self-locking nut. Push on the locking plate (25f) until the lug in the steering coupling (25) latches.
14	Install in the reverse order
