Remove/install airbag unit on the steering wheel (-2008) - AR91.60-P-0660V

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install    
DANGER Risk of injury.  Injuries may result when performing testing or repair work on airbag or emergency tensioning retractor units. Store airbag units with deployment side facing up; do not expose to temperatures greater than 100°C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply.  
1 Adjust driver seat and steering column all the way back IMPORTANT See Operator's Manual  
2 Switch off the ignition and remove the transmitter key from the EIS control unit    
3 Insert screwdriver bit into the openings (arrows) at the back of the steering wheel (2) and unscrew the screws out of the driver airbag unit (1) SPECIAL TOOL Fig 2
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA91.60-P-1001-01A 
4 Remove driver airbag unit (1) from steering wheel (2) and turn over to rear until lock tabs (3) are accessible    
5 Unclip lock tabs (3) and disconnect electrical connectors (5) SPECIAL TOOL Fig 3
    IMPORTANTInstallation:  the electrical connectors (5) must be heard to latch into place properly.  
6 Disconnect electrical connector (4)    
7 Disconnect driver airbag unit (1) from steering wheel (2) IMPORTANT If driver airbag unit (1) is being replaced, the defective driver airbag unit (1) must be properly disposed of. Refer to: ↓  
REFER TO FORMS   Notes on disposing of airbag and emergency tensioning retractor units OS91.00-P-0001-01A 
8 Install in the reverse order    
9.1 Read out fault memory IMPORTANT When replacing driver airbag unit (1).  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory   AD00.00-P-2000-04A
