Check and correct headlamp adjustment - AP82.10-P-8260R: Notes

MODEL 230 

INSPECT Check    
DANGER Risk of death  caused by high voltage levels present at xenon headlamps.
Risk of explosion/fire hazard  due to highly flammable substances in the area of damaged xenon bulbs
Risk of injury  due to UV light, hot components on xenon headlamps and glass splinters when xenon bulbs burst
Risk of poisoning  caused by inhalation of mercury vapors and by toxic salts and mercury compounds being ingested or coming into contact with skin
Do not come into contact with parts that are under high voltage. Persons with active electronic implants  (e.g. heart pacemakers) must never work on xenon headlamps. Switch off entire lighting system. Wear insulated safety shoes, safety glasses and protective gloves. Remove highly inflammable materials from the hazard area. Ensure sufficient ventilation in the working area. AS82.10-Z-0001-01A
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

1 Park vehicle on a level surface. IMPORTANT Vehicle in ready-to-drive condition means:
- Curb weight
- Correct tire pressure
- Vehicle at normal level
- Steering is in straight-ahead position
 
2 Put vehicle in ready-to-drive condition    
3 Open engine hood   AR88.40-P-1000R
4 Prepare headlamp aimer
 
IMPORTANT Align headlamp aimer approx. 10 to max. 30 cm in front of the headlamps parallel to the vehicle at the height of the light source. Adjust specified headlamp inclination on scale of headlamp aimer.

5 Occupy driver seat with a person or load the seat with 75 kg On vehicles with halogen headlamps and without level control system at front and rear axle  
6 Check fill level of fuel tank On vehicles with halogen headlamps and without level control system at front and rear axle
IMPORTANT If the fuel tank is not full, compensate for the missing weight by placing appropriate additional weights in the luggage compartment.
 
7 Switch on low beams at rotary light switch IMPORTANT The turn signal lamps, rear fog lamp and Night View Assist must not be switched on!  
8 Check headlamp range control for proper function For vehicles with halogen headlamps, after completion of function test of headlamp range adjustment: ↓
Move headlamp range controller to 0 position.
 
9.1 Switch on ignition except CODE 487 (Active Body Control (ABC))  
9.2 Start engine With code 487 (Active Body Control (ABC))  
10 Get out with the engine running and close driver door With code 487 (Active Body Control (ABC))  
11 Check low beam setting and correct if necessary On vehicles with xenon or LED headlamps: ↓
Conduct zero position adjustment of headlamp subject to separate repair order.

12 Check setting of high beam   AP82.10-P-8260-02A 
13 Check fog lamp setting and adjust if necessary On vehicles with front fog lamps
Except code (P99) "AMG Black Series" special model

14.1 Switch off lights and ignition except CODE 487 (Active Body Control (ABC))
IMPORTANT Put the vehicle back in its original condition.
 
14.2 Switch off light and turn off engine With code 487 (Active Body Control (ABC))
IMPORTANT Put the vehicle back in its original condition.
15 Adjust headlamp range controller to load On vehicles with halogen headlamps condition  
16 Close engine hood   AR88.40-P-1000R
