1. Open glove box lid, unclip glove box lamp (E13/1) from glove box (13) and place to one side.
2. Press insulation material on rear of glove box (13) to one side in area (A) through the opening for glove box lamp (E13/1) and check whether wiring harnesses are located in this area.

   A hole is drilled in area (A). Fix existing wiring harnesses in place accordingly so that these cannot be damaged by the drilling of the hole.

3. Make marking as shown on glove box (13) and drill a hole with a diameter of 20 mm.

   Dimension:  a = 20 mm (distance of hole to reference edge (arrow B))

4. Clip glove box lamp (E13/1) into glove box (13).
5. Guide iPod wiring harness (8) outward through drilled hole and route along existing wiring harnesses to installation opening of COMAND controller unit (A40/3).
6. Plug hole with grommet (12) at iPod wiring harness (8).

7. Cover center console with a clean rag and expose both optical fibers at vehicle wiring harness (arrow C).
8. Remove optical fiber coupling (14) from black 20-pin coupling (3) and install at the same position in black 20-pin coupling (5) of wiring harness for iPod interface (2).
9. Fix both optical fibers in place using insulation tape approx. 50 mm behind optical fiber coupling (14) at wiring harness for iPod interface (2).
10. Connect black 20-pin coupling (3) and black 20-pin plug (4) and then wrap completely with felt tape.
11. Place iPod interface (1) on center console.
12. Connect black 18-pin coupling (6) at iPod interface (1) and lock.
13. Connect black coupling (9) of iPod wiring harness to iPod interface (1).
14. Connect white 4-pin coupling (11) at iPod wiring harness (8) with white 4-pin plug (7) at wiring harness for iPod interface (2) and wrap completely with felt tape.
