19.3.09 Value modified: Bolt, battery bracket to body, Nm Model 221 *BA54.10-P-1027-01C 
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
NOTES Information on preventing damage to electronic components due to electrostatic discharge   AH54.00-P-0001-01A
IMPORTANT The SAM control unit (2) of the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module assembly (N10/2) can be removed or replaced separately.
See steps 1 to 8.
   
1 Temporarily store basic data from SAM control unit (2) in STAR DIAGNOSIS When replacing the SAM control unit (2).
NOTESInstallation:  Transfer the temporarily stored basic data to the new SAM control unit (2).
 
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory AD00.00-P-2000-04A
2 Remove rear shelf reinforcement   AR64.10-P-1200SX
3 Switch off ignition and withdraw transmitter key or Keyless Go start/stop button from the EIS [EZS] control unit IMPORTANT Keyless Go start/stop button only for vehicles with code (889) Keyless Go.  
4.1 Detach bracket of on-board electrical system battery (G1) and swing on-board electrical system battery (G1) to one side Model 216.3, 221.0/1 up to 1.6.08 without code (809) Model year 2009

4.2 Detach bracket of starter battery and swing starter battery to one side Model 221.1 as of 2.6.08 with code (Z07)

IMPORTANT On the above vehicles the starter battery is fitted in the trunk instead of the on-board electrical system battery (G1).

5 Disconnect electrical connector of luggage compartment Keyless-Go antenna (A2/35) On vehicles with code (889) Keyless go  
6 Remove bolts (1) and pull forward rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) until the wiring harness (3) and wiring harness (4) is accessible behind the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) NOTESInstallation:  Ensure that no electrical lines are pinched otherwise there is the danger of damaging the electrical system.  
7 Expose wiring harness (3) and wiring harness (4) on the rear panel NOTESInstallation:  Observe routing and fixing of wiring harnesses.  
8 Unlock SAM control unit (2) (arrows), remove from rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) and disconnect electrical connectors When replacing the SAM control unit (2) separately.
IMPORTANT Number of electrical connectors can vary according to vehicle equipment.
 
9 Disconnect ground cable Depending on the battery system fitted, disconnect the corresponding ground lines in order to de-energize the on-board electrical system. AR54.10-P-0003SX 
10 Separate electrical connectors and fuse holders from the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) IMPORTANT The number of electrical connectors and fuse holders differs depending on the vehicle equipment.  
11 Remove rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2)    
12 Unlock SAM control unit (2) (arrows) and remove from rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) When replacing the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2).  
13 Remove bracket from rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) When replacing the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2).  
14 Compare the fuse and relay fittings of the new rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) with that of the old rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) and adapt fittings if necessary When replacing the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2).  
15 Install in the reverse order
