Pushing off

Unscrew self-locking nut from tie rod joint.
To check the variant: Clean rubber boot and contact surface on the steering knuckle if necessary.
Old steering knuckle

On vehicles from the model year 06 steering knuckles (7) with a smaller contact surface (arrow) for the tie rod ball joint (10) can be fitted.
Fit puller.
Slide mouth opening of puller carefully between steering knuckle and boot of tie rod ball joint (10).

Puller:

(Fa. Klann, 78166 Donaueschingen, Bestell-number. [order number] KL-0164-2)

Do not damage rubber boot, as otherwise lubricant may leak from the tie rod joint (10)

New steering knuckle

These steering knuckles (7) have an enlarged contact surface (arrow) for the tie rod ball joint (10).
Mount thrust piece.
Thrust piece 140 589 00 63 00
Pry off tie rod ball joint (10) using puller and press.
Observe variant of tie rod ball joint (10).

Puller 221 589 00 33 00 for tie rod ball joint without steel contact ring.

Puller 221 589 05 33 00 for tie rod ball joint with steel contact ring.

The steel contact ring (9) is vulcanized into the rubber boot (contact surface to steering knuckle (7)).

Position puller accurately so that the steel support ring (9) is not damaged.

Do not damage rubber boot, as otherwise lubricant may leak from the tie rod joint (10)

Remove puller, press and thrust piece.
Attaching
Clean tapered connection.
Grease or oil must not be present at the cone and thread, as otherwise the tie rod joint (10) could work its way loose.
Replace self-locking nut and tighten to specified torque.
Counter ball head with an Allen wrench if necessary.
