MODIFICATION NOTES

25.7.06 Disconnect/connect battery ground line and carry out basic programming removed Steps 5 and 13  
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
NOTES Notes on avoiding damage to electronic components due to electrostatic discharge   AH54.00-P-0001-01A 
1 Read out coding from rear SAM control unit (N10/8) using STAR DIAGNOSIS IMPORTANT Only when exchanging the rear SAM control unit (N10/8) and if it can still be read out using STAR DIAGNOSIS.  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory   AD00.00-P-2000-04A
    STAR DIAGNOSIS diagnosis system *WH58.30-Z-1048-13A 
2 Open tailgate    
3 Remove luggage compartment cover IMPORTANT On vehicles with luggage compartment cover, code 723.  
4 Open load compartment floor (1) at the handle (20), fold upwards (arrow) and secure    
5.1 Open retaining strap (23), take out jack (22), unscrew mounting bolt (25), lift the spare tire (2) and the plastic insert (24) under it out of the vehicle IMPORTANT On vehicles with code 669 spare tire on steel rim
NOTES When lifting out, cover the trunk sill with a rag for example otherwise the paint of the trunk sill and/or the steel rim may become damaged.
 
5.2 Unscrew mounting bolt (25) and lift the vehicle tool kit molded part (26) out of the vehicle IMPORTANT On vehicles with code 669 spare tire on steel rim
NOTES Lift the vehicle tool kit molded part (26) first, then lift out upwards at an angle otherwise the lugs on the bottom side may break off.
 
6 Remove right spare tire well trim (3) IMPORTANT Slip out wiring harness.  
7 Using a suitable tool, press the clips (5) towards the rear SAM control unit (N10/8) and pull out of the bracket    
8 Unlock plug (4) and detach from rear SAM control unit (N10/8) IMPORTANT The number of plugs (4) can vary depending on the vehicle equipment.  
9 Remove rear SAM control module (N10/8)    
10 Install in the reverse order    
11 Code the rear SAM control unit (N10/8) IMPORTANT Only when installing a new rear SAM control unit (N10/8).  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory   AD00.00-P-2000-04A
