Remove/install battery - AR54.10-P-0005RT

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of injury  caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or metal spatter due to short circuit. Risk of burn injuries  caused by short circuit. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or absorption of lead over the skin or orifices No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves and clothing and safety glasses with side guards.
Do not place any conductive objects on the battery and avoid any short circuit from battery positive to ground.
Only fill liquid battery electrolyte (diluted sulfuric acid) into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

1 Move the right-hand front seat (1) completely to the rear    
2 Switch off all electrical consumers NOTES All the electrical consumers must be switched off, otherwise they may be damaged when unclipping and clipping on ground line (12).  
3 Switch off ignition and remove the transmitter key from the EIS [EZS] control unit IMPORTANT On vehicles with Keyless Go, code 889:
Press Keyless Go start/stop button repeatedly until ignition is switched off. Remove transmitter key from vehicle and store it in a location beyond its transmission range (at least 2 m).
 
4 Unclip left rail cover (2) to the front (arrow A) as well as cover (3) and remove    
5 Unclip right rail cover (5) and detach from the rail to the front (arrow C) IMPORTANT To unclip, using a suitable tool move into the opening of the rail cover (5) (arrow B) and unclip rail cover (5).  
6 Lift front right floor covering (6) upwards and lift up rear floor covering (7) (arrow D)    
7 Lift floor covering (8) between the right front seat (1) and bottom B-pillar trim (9) upwards (arrow E) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Ensure that floor covering (8) is seated correctly below bottom B-pillar paneling (9) and door sill molding (10).

8 Move the right front seat (1) completely to the front    
9 Loosen nut on terminal of battery negative pole (11), disconnect ground line (12) of the battery (G1) NOTES All consumers must be switched off, as otherwise the vehicle electrical system may be damaged.
IMPORTANT It must be ensured that no remote starting unit is connected to the vehicle.

10 Unclip and remove the rear rails cover (13) SPECIAL TOOL Long wedge Fig 4
11 Unclip and remove cover (14) SPECIAL TOOL Long wedge Fig 4
12 Remove bolt (15) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA68.50-P-1001-03G 
13 Remove anchoring lug (16) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Ensure that guide lugs are installed correctly.  
14 Take off cover (17)    
15 Lift rear floor covering (7) upwards (arrow F)    
16 Unscrew nuts (18) and remove cover (19)    
17 Detach bleed hose (20) including plastic support from battery (G1) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Route vent hose (20) without kinks.  
18 Remove cover of positive battery terminal (21) loosen nut on terminal of positive battery terminal (22), disconnect positive line (23) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA54.10-P-1012-01C 
19 Unscrew nuts (24) and remove retaining plate (25) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA54.10-P-1024-01C 
20 Remove battery (G1) INSTALLATION NOTES Before installation of the battery (G1) make sure that no cables are located within the area of the battery fixture, as they may be damaged when the battery (G1) is installed.
Ensure that the maxi-fuses in the prefuse box in the battery compartment are not loosened inadvertently when installing and removing the battery (G1).
 
21 Install in the reverse order    
22 Perform basic programming   AR00.19-P-0200RT
