Risk of injury caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or metal spatter due to short circuit. Risk of burn injuries caused by short circuit. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or absorption of lead over the skin or orifices | No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves and clothing and safety glasses with side guards. Do not place any conductive objects on the battery and avoid any short circuit from battery positive to ground. Only fill liquid battery electrolyte (diluted sulfuric acid) into suitable and appropriately marked containers. |

| 1 | Move the right-hand front seat (1) completely to the rear | ||
| 2 | Switch off all electrical consumers | ||
| 3 | Switch off ignition and remove the transmitter key from the EIS [EZS] control unit | Press Keyless Go start/stop button repeatedly until ignition is switched off. Remove transmitter key from vehicle and store it in a location beyond its transmission range (at least 2 m). |

| 4 | Unclip left rail cover (2) to the front (arrow A) as well as cover (3) and remove | ||
| 5 | Unclip right rail cover (5) and detach from the rail to the front (arrow C) | ||
| 6 | Lift front right floor covering (6) upwards and lift up rear floor covering (7) (arrow D) | ||
| 7 | Lift floor covering (8) between the right front seat (1) and bottom B-pillar trim (9) upwards (arrow E) | ||

| 16 | Unscrew nuts (18) and remove cover (19) | ||
| 17 | Detach bleed hose (20) including plastic support from battery (G1) | ||

| 19 | Unscrew nuts (24) and remove retaining plate (25) | *BA54.10-P-1024-01C | |
| 20 | Remove battery (G1) | Ensure that the maxi-fuses in the prefuse box in the battery compartment are not loosened inadvertently when installing and removing the battery (G1). |
