2 Check manufacture date of tires on front and rear axles
REFER TO BASIC KNOWLEDGE Overview of recommended tires MODEL 221 with CODE Z07 (Top protection), with CODE Z19 (S 600 Pullman Guard state sedan)
If the manufacture date is older than 6 years:

Subject to a separate repair order, replace the tires for safety reasons.
GF40.10-P-1008O
3 Check tires on front and rear axle IMPORTANT Check tread as well as outer and inner sidewalls on all tires for signs of damage such as cuts, punctures, cracks, breakouts, separation and ingressed foreign matter.
If damage is present:

Replace tires subject to separate repair order.

4 Assess wear pattern and tread depth of tires on front and rear axle   AP40.10-P-4052B
IMPORTANT Only when the acceptance inspection item as per the "Acceptance inspection test record for service on vehicle" was not conducted.
In event of unusual wear pattern:

Determine cause and, where necessary, repair subject to separate repair order.
At the latest when reaching the minimum tread depth:

Replace tires subject to separate repair order.
MEASURING Measure
5 Measure tread depth of tires on front and rear axle, and note measurement values on maintenance sheet Only where a tread depth measurement is required as part of the service according to the service sheet.
IMPORTANT Notes on measuring tire tread depth   AH40.10-P-0006-01T
IMPORTANT For safety reasons, before reaching the minimum tread depth,
  • Conventional summer tires with approx. 3 mm tread depth,
  • PAX system summer tires with 3 mm tread depth, and
  • Winter tires with approx. 4 mm tread depth has to be replaced.

IMPORTANT The main tread along the entire circumference must have a tread depth of at least 1.6 mm. Measure depth of tread at point of greatest wear. Conduct measurement on outside, inside and on the center of the main tread in the tread grooves with tread wear indicator (TWI).
IMPORTANT The stated tread depths are valid in the Federal Republic of Germany, differently phrased country-specific regulations must be observed accordingly.

SPECIAL TOOL Brake pad test gauge
At the latest when reaching the minimum tread depth:

Replace tires subject to separate repair order.

6 Interchange wheel-and-tire assemblies on front and rear axles If necessary, subject to separate repair order and only for vehicles without mixed tires.
NOTES MODEL 219
Observe assembly note (6)! With identical tire dimensions the disk wheels on the front and rear axle also have different wheel offsets.
The wheel-and-tire assemblies may therefore not be exchanged axlewise!  Otherwise the vehicle and wheel and tire assemblies may be damaged which in turn can cause injury to people, property and the environment!
NOTES Maintain running direction of wheel-and-tire assemblies.
Otherwise handling characteristics and handling comfort may be impaired and tire wear increased.
IMPORTANT MODEL 221 with CODE Z07 (Top protection), with CODE Z19 (S 600 Pullman Guard state sedan)
It is advisable to interchange the tires after a driving distance of 5000 km.
