Potential risks
Risk of death
When triggering squibs that are not mounted on an extinguishing agent tank intended for this purpose or in a suitable holding device, they could fly around like projectiles and cause serious, life-threatening or fatal injuries.
Risk of injury
When triggering squibs:
- There is a risk of injury to skin and body parts caused by the detonation shock wave and by particles piercing the skin.
- There is the risk of burn injuries caused by the exit of hot gases and flames as well as coming into contact with hot components.
- Gases and residues are produced which can cause irritation when coming into contact with the respiratory paths, eyes, skin or mucous membranes.
Risk of poisoning
When squibs are triggered, gases and residues are produced which when inhaled or swallowed can cause symptom of poisoning such as coughing, headaches, dizziness and nausea.
Fire hazard
There is the risk of fire caused by the hot gases and flames produced when triggering squibs near flammable materials.
Safety precautions/instructions
- Do not eat, drink, smoke or keep any foods in the work area.
- Wear safety glasses or face mask and cotton gloves.
- Only trigger squibs after they have been correctly mounted on an extinguishing agent tank intended for this purpose or in a suitable holding device.
- Always keep the squib's opening facing away from the body and not pointed at other people. Keep all body parts at a sufficient distance from the opening.
- Do not inhale or ingest gases and residues or come into contact with them.
- Do not touch hot components.
First aid measures
- For burns, rinse with a sufficient amount of cold water for at least 15 minutes. If necessary, call an ambulance or consult a physician!
- Always consult a physician immediately in the case of injuries cased by the detonation shock wave!
- Rinse body areas that have come into contact with combustion residue with a sufficient amount of water, washing off all residue if possible.
- Persons with symptoms of poisoning or irritation of the respiratory paths are to be moved into the fresh air and to be kept calm. If necessary, call an ambulance or consult a physician.
Fire protection measures
- Keep work area free of flammable materials.
