Remove/install lamp unit - AR82.10-P-4730RT

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of death  caused by contact with parts conducting high voltages. Do not touch parts which conduct high voltages. Persons who wear electronic implants (e.g. heart pacemakers) should never perform any work on the ignition system AS15.10-Z-0001-01A
DANGER Risk of death  caused by high voltage levels present at xenon headlamps.
Risk of explosion/fire  due to highly flammable materials in the area of damaged xenon bulbs
Risk of injury  caused by UV light, hot components on xenon headlamps and glass splinters when xenon bulbs are bursting
Risk of poisoning  due to inhaling mercury vapors and when swallowing/coming in contact with toxic salts and mercury compounds
Do not come into contact with parts that are under high voltage. Persons with active electronic implants  (e.g. heart pacemakers) must never work on xenon headlamps. Switch off entire lighting system. Wear insulating safety shoes, safety glasses, and protective gloves. Remove highly inflammable materials from the hazard area. Ensure that the working area is sufficiently ventilated. AS82.10-Z-0001-01A
1 Switch off ignition and remove the transmitter key from the EIS [EZS] control unit IMPORTANT On vehicles with Keyless Go, code 889:
Press Keyless Go start/stop button repeatedly until the ignition is switched off. Remove transmitter key from vehicle and store it in a location beyond its transmission range (at least 2 m).
 
2 Open engine hood   AR88.40-P-1000RT
3 Remove radiator trim   AR88.40-P-4001RT
4 Remove front section of fender liner in right and left front fender   AR88.10-P-1310RT
5 Remove screw (1, 7)    
6 Undo bolt (4), pivot bracket (3) toward the vehicle and remove to the rear    
7 Lift front fender (6) out of the front bumper (2) using a mounting wedge INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Ensure that the front fender (6) is seated correctly in the clip (5).

8 Detach front bumper (2) and pivot out of the working area    
9 Disconnect electrical connector (11) IMPORTANT Only for vehicles with bi-xenon headlamp unit with integrated curve illumination, code 615 or with bi-xenon headlamp unit with integrated asymmetric curve illumination, code 616.  
10 Disconnect electrical connector (12)    
11 Undo bolts (8, 10, 13)    
12 Remove left front lamp unit (E1) or right front lamp unit (E2) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Ensure that the seal (9) on the left front lamp unit (E1) or right front lamp unit (E2) is seated correctly.  
13 Install in the reverse order IMPORTANT Do not close hood yet.  
INSPECT Checking     
14 Check gap dimensions at the left front lamp unit (E1) or right front lamp unit (E2), adjust if necessary IMPORTANT See: ↓  
Gap dimensions on hoods, doors and lids AR60.00-P-0700-01RT
Gap between lamp unit and hood "dimension A" *BE60.00-P-1001-01S 
Gap between lamp unit and fender "dimension B" *BE60.00-P-1001-01S 
Gap between lamp unit and bumper "dimension C" *BE60.00-P-1001-01S 
SPECIAL TOOL Feeler gauge Fig 4
15 Adjust the zero position of the xenon headlamps IMPORTANT Only for vehicles with bi-xenon headlamp unit with integrated curve illumination, code 615 or with bi-xenon headlamp unit with integrated asymmetric curve illumination, code 616.  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory AD00.00-P-2000-04A
STAR DIAGNOSIS system *WH58.30-Z-1048-13A 
16 Check the setting of the headlamps and adjust if necessary    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Check and correct headlamp adjustment AP82.10-P-8260RT 
17 Close engine hood
