  Balancing

1.1 Remove wheel balance weight (43a) with retaining clip SPECIAL TOOL Figure
1.2 Remove adhesive weights (43b, 43c) using removal tool SPECIAL TOOL
IMPORTANT Use adhesive weights on light alloy disk wheels with restricted installation conditions.

2 Clean wheels if necessary. NOTES Dirt on the tire or disk wheel causes incorrect measurement results when balancing. It is therefore essential to remove all dirt before balancing.   
  Balance wheels while stationary

4 Check wheels for radial runout IMPORTANT The radial runout at the wheel must be no more than max. 1.0 mm. On steel disk wheels, a more favorable position of disk wheel relative to the tire can, if necessary, be achieved by turning the tire. However, this should only be done if it is certain that there are no flats caused by parking or braking.  
5 Fasten wheels to stationary balancing machine and balance them IMPORTANT Use only approved balancing machines and follow the operating instructions from the manufacturer.
IMPORTANT The residual imbalance on each side of the wheel may not exceed 10 grams.
 
  Balance wheels dynamically     
6 Switch off electronic stability program (ESP)    
7 Close vehicle doors, hood and trunk lid    
DANGER Risk of death  caused by being drawn into rotating vehicle parts Do not insert your hand into rotating parts. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Secure area of rotating vehicle components against unauthorized access.

8 Balance wheels with dynamic balancing machine on vehicle IMPORTANT Use only approved balancing machines and follow the operating instructions from the manufacturer.
  • Wheels may only be finish-balanced on the vehicle after they have been statically balanced.
  • Balance steel disk wheels with  hubcaps.
  • Drive the rear wheels with the engine only otherwise the rear axle center assembly will be damaged.
 
9 Switch on electronic stability program (ESP)
