MODIFICATION NOTES

7.10.04 Document entirely revised according to modified repair method
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install
NOTES Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   AH00.00-N-0001-01A
NOTES The air spring (41) may only be removed together with the additional volume reservoir (41p) The connecting hose from the air spring (41) to the additional volume reservoir (41p) must not be removed otherwise leakage will occur.41 Furthermore, it should be ensured that before removal the air springs (41) are emptied completely using STAR DIAGNOSIS. If the air springs (41) are not installed and filled in accordance with the specifications, they may suffer damage and fail a short time afterwards.
IMPORTANTInstallation  Tighten nuts and bolts of chassis components only when vehicle is in the ready-to-drive condition.
1 Remove rear axle   AR35.10-P-0010T
2 Disconnect pressure line (41a) from air spring (41) NOTESInstallation:  When reinstalling the old air spring ensure that the pressure line is carefully screwed onto the plastic thread, because if it is not screwed in properly the plastic thread can be damaged and therefore the air spring is destroyed.
IMPORTANTInstallation:  If installing a new air spring remove screw connection at pressure line. Do to this, pull off screw head and insert pressure line up to marking in connection of new air spring. Pull back pressure line slightly so that retaining edges around inside of clamping ring engage in outer surface of line.
NOTES Plug the pressure line for the duration of the repair operations.

IMPORTANTInstallation:  Before assembly damaged pressure line connections or damaged pressure lines must be repaired. AR32.22-P-2001-02I

6 Detach air spring (41) from spring control arm (72) by slackening nut (5) and pulling out bolt (6) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA32.25-P-1008-04B
7 Remove air springs (41) together with additional volume reservoir (41p) NOTES Do not twist the air spring as this produces creases in the air spring bellows which would then lead to failure.
IMPORTANTInstallation:  If the old air spring is used again, any parts from the retaining clip (7) which has been destroyed must be removed from the air spring and the retaining clip replaced. AR32.22-P-1500-02T
