Disassemble/assemble suspension strut - AR32.25-P-1018TS: Notes

MODEL 211.0 /2 except CODE (489) Airmatic (semi-active air suspension) 

MODEL 230 except CODE (487) Active Body Control (ABC)

REMOVING Removing     
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by pinching or crushing  when working on springs or spring bodies that are under load Use only approved tensioning devices; shield off hazard area if necessary.
Inspect special tools for damage and proper operation (visual inspection).
Wear protective gloves.

1 Remove front or rear suspension strut (7) Remove front suspension strut:  
    Model 211 with 4MATIC AR32.25-P-1017T 
    Model 211 without 4MATIC, 230
Remove rear suspension strut:
AR32.25-P-1017TS 
    Model 230 AR32.25-P-1016RA

2 SPECIAL TOOL Clamp the tensioning device (01) in the vise and SPECIAL TOOL insert the clamping plate (02a) and SPECIAL TOOL clamping plate (02b) SPECIAL TOOL Tensioning device Fig 2

3 Install suspension strut (7) SPECIAL TOOL in spring compressor (01) IMPORTANT When positioning the strut, attempt to get the maximum possible number of spring coils (4) in the spring clamp.  
4 Clamp the spring (4) until the upper spring cup (5b) is relieved of load    
5 Remove cap (5d)    
6 Unscrew mounting nut (5c) and remove shock absorber (2) IMPORTANT Counterhold piston rod (2a).
Model 211:
 
    SPECIAL TOOL Socket

7 Remove bellows (6a) and stop damper (6b)    
8 Remove lower spring cup (3e), contact rubber (3d) and support washer (3c)    
9 SPECIAL TOOL Unclamp tensioning device (01) and remove spring (4) with upper spring cup (5b) and spring seat (5a)    
INSPECT Checking     
10 Inspect shock absorber (2) INSPECT Checking shock absorbers for leaks A thin film of oil on the shock absorber is permissible. Replace shock absorbers according to requirement: ↓ AR32.25-P-0121A 
    Install support ring (3a) in correct position on new shock absorber. AR32.25-P-1018-01TS 
    COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE TOOLS Caliper gage, measuring range up to 500 mm *WH58.30-Z-1006-12A 
11 Check bellows (6a), stop damper (6b), spring seat (5a), support washer (3c) and contact rubber (3d) for wear IMPORTANT Replace any components with oil contamination, cracks or deformation.  
12 Assemble in the reverse order    
INSTALLING Install     
13 Install front or rear suspension strut (7) Install front suspension strut:  
    Model 211 with 4MATIC AR32.25-P-1017T 
    Model 211 without 4MATIC, 230
Install rear suspension strut:
AR32.25-P-1017TS 
    Model 230 AR32.25-P-1016RA
14.1 Check headlamp adjustment and correct if necessary After installing new parts  
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Check and correct headlamp setting Model 211 AP82.10-P-8260T
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Model 230 AP82.10-P-8260R
