Dispose of shock absorber - OS32.25-P-0121-01TX

Front axle (dual-tube shock absorber) 

IMPORTANT With dual-tube shock absorbers, the working cylinder (6) and the reservoir tube (7) form two chambers. The working chamber is located inside the working cylinder (6). The piston and piston rod (4) move in the working chamber. The ring shaped oil reservoir (5) is located between the working cylinder (6) and the reservoir tube (7). This reservoir is used to compensate for the change in oil volume in the working chamber caused by the movement of the piston rod (4). The oil reservoir (5) is partially filled with hydraulic fluid and partially filled with gas (3) which is stored at a pressure of 6 to 8 bar.

Drill holes 

  1. 1st drill hole: 

    Drill reservoir tube (7) approx. 20 mm (dimension A) from upper edge using 5 mm dia. drill bit (gas escapes).

  2. 2nd drill hole: 

    Drill reservoir tube (7) approx. 20 mm (dimension B) from lower edge, directly above bottom valve (9) using 5 mm dia. drill bit (hydraulic fluid escapes).

    IMPORTANT Observe regulations governing disposal of hydraulic fluid.

  3. Apply compressed air to 1st drill hole so that piston rod (4) is pressed all the way down. The shock absorber must empty completely though the 2nd drill hole.
  4. Dispose of shock absorber (scrap).

Rear axle (single-tube shock absorber) 

IMPORTANT In single-tube shock absorbers, the working chamber and oil reservoir are located in a single cylindrical tube. Oil (top) and gas (bottom) are separated by a movable dividing piston with an O-ring seal. The gas chamber is used to compensate for the volume of the retracting piston rod and is under pressure. The gas pressure generates the ejection force of the piston rod.

  1. 1st drill hole: 

    Drill working cylinder (5) approx. 5 mm (dimension A) from lower edge using 5 mm dia. drill bit (gas escapes).

  2. 2nd drill hole: 

    Drill working cylinder (5) approx. 20 mm (dimension B) from upper edge using 5 mm dia. drill bit.

  3. Apply compressed air to 2nd drill hole so that dividing piston (6) is pushed downwards to the 1st drill hole.
  4. 3rd drill hole: 

    Drill working cylinder (5) approx. 20 mm (dimension C) from 1st drill hole (above dividing piston (6)) using 5 mm dia. drill bit (hydraulic fluid escapes).

    IMPORTANT Observe regulations for disposal of hydraulic fluid.

  5. Dispose of shock absorber (scrap).
