SPS [PML] solenoid valve, component description - GF46.50-P-5140SX
MODEL 221.0 /1, 216.3 up to Model Year 8
Illustrated on model 221
Location
The SPS [PML] solenoid valve is on the steering gear.
Task
The SPS [PML] solenoid valve stops assisted steering at the request of the ESP control unit (N47-5) depending on the vehicle speed.
Design
The SPS [PML] solenoid valve is a current-controlled proportioning valve.
Function
The electronics for actuation of the SPS [PML] solenoid valve is integrated in the ESP control unit. The SPS [PML] solenoid valve is actuated pulsed. As the vehicle speed increases, the current flow decreases and the SPS [PML] solenoid valve is continuously opened according to a characteristic defined in the ESP control unit. This regulates the oil flow and thus the torque to be applied to the steering wheel. The SPS [PML] solenoid valve is closed if it is actuated with the maximum current (v = 0 km/h). No oil flows and the minimum steering wheel torque is set (e. g. for parking).
