This function protects the shift elements of the automatic transmission from thermal overload during load changes in the upper engine speed range.

Through brief retardation of the ignition and closing of the throttle valve during shift operations, the engine torque is reduced. The ME-SFI [ME] control unit is supplied with a signal for this purpose by the transmission control unit via the CAN data bus.
