Location
The purge control valve is located in the engine compartment.
Task
Opening or closing the connection line between the activated charcoal canister and the intake manifold (purge line).
Design
Electric switchover valve with two line terminals and one 2-pin plug connection.
Function
The purge control valve is actuated on the ground side by the motor electronics control unit, depending on operating condition of engine and on the vehicle load of the activated charcoal canister, at the ground end with a pulse width modulation signal (duty cycle 0 to 100 %).
The voltage supply is performed via circuit 87.
If purging is released, the purge control valve pulses audibly and perceptibly.
At the same time the passage for the purge line from the activated charcoal canister to the intake manifold (a b) is opened and closed.
The purge control valve is opened and closed for the leak test of the regeneration system. It also detects if the purge control valve jams in open condition.
To suppress pulse noise, a fluid reservoir is located upstream of the purge switchover valve.
