Operating instructions
Various menu levels can be displayed in the multifunction display of the instrument cluster using the left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111) A1p13A1:
- It is possible to scroll in the vehicle menus using the system selection button (S110s3).
- It is possible to scroll in the submenus or lists within a menu using the scroll forward and back button (S110s1).
- It is possible to switch from the menu or submenu to the next menu level up using the "Back" and VCS Off button (S110s4).
- The OK button (S110s6) can be used to confirm the respective selection or pending message.
All the buttons of the multifunction steering wheel button group are always fitted. Activation of the corresponding functions however depends on the equipment installed in the vehicle.

- "Trip" menu
- "Navi" menu
- "Audio" menu
- "Telephone" menu
- "Assistance" menu

"Trip" menu
The following information can be called up in the trip menu:
- Standard display
- Trip computer "After start"
- Trip computer "After reset"
- Current consumption display and range
- Digital speedometer
- Hybrid (on model 221.095/195)
The data in each display window "after start" or "after reset" or the trip odometer can be reset with the OK button in the left multifunction steering wheel button group.
"Navi" menu
Navigation notes are displayed in the "Navi" menu when the function is switched on.
When the function is switched off the direction of travel with compass bearing is displayed (e.g. "Direction of travel NW").
The navigation function is switched on or off via the COMAND controller unit (A40/3).
"Audio" menu
The following functions can be selected in the "Audio" menu:
- Select radio station
- Operate CD player/CD changer/DVD changer/DVD audio/MP3
- Operate DVD video
- Operate TV (with code (863) Digital/analog TV tuner)
The audio source (e.g. radio or CD) can only be selected at the COMAND controller unit.
"Telephone" menu
When the function is switched on the name of the selected mobile telephone network is displayed in the "Telephone" menu. It is still possible then to scroll through the stored telephone book and select an entry. When the function is switched off the text "Telephone Off" is displayed.
The telephone function is switched on or off via the COMAND controller unit. The message "Ready for Bluetooth telephony" appears if no mobile telephone is detected when the function is switched on.
"Assistance" menu
Depending on equipment installed, adjustments can be performed in the following menus/systems in the "Assistance" menu:
- "Speed. Limit Assist".

- "Distance graphic"
(with code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS)
- "Proximity warning device"
(without code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS or on model 216 with code (219) Distronic (DTR))

- Activate PRE-SAFE brake

- "Attention ASSYST"
(on model 221 as of 1.6.09 or model 216 as of 1.9.10)
- "Blind Spot Assist"
(with code (234) Blind Spot Assist, as of 1.9.10 with code (237) Active Blind Spot Assist)
- "Lane Keeping Assist"
(on model 221 as of 1.6.09 or model 216 as of 1.9.10 with code (476) Automatic lane recognition)
- "Active Lane Keeping Assist"
(as of 1.9.10 with code (238) Active Lane Keeping Assist)
"Service" menu
The following functions can be selected in the "Service" menu:
- "Messages" (with number of stored fault messages or warning messages)
- "Tire pressure" (with code (475) Tire pressure monitor (Premium)) (e.g. inquiry about current tire pressures)
"ASSYST PLUS" (e.g. display of remaining distance until next service)
"Settings" menu
Changes to the following adjustments can be performed in the "Adjustments" menu:
- "Daytime running lights"
- "Intelligent Light System"
(with code (621) Intelligent Light System (left-hand traffic) or code (622) Intelligent Light System (right-hand traffic))
- "Adaptive high beams assist."
(with code (608) Adaptive Highbeam Assist)
- "SPEEDTRONIC"
- "Additional speedometer" (except with code (833) Great Britain version)
With code (833) Great Britain version, the additional speedometer is always displayed. A selection is therefore not provided.
- "Units"
- "Radar sensor system" (with code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS or on model 216 up to 31.8.10 with code (219) Distronic (DTR))
- "Acoustic locking feedback" (as of 1.9.09)
- "Tourist function" (on model 216 as of 1.9.09)
Workshop level menu
The Workshop level menu is not a separate menu item and can be called up as follows:
- Call up the "Trip" menu and switch to the trip kilometers display
- Press the accept and end phone call button (S111s3), hold down 1 and press the OK button within t < 1 s and hold down for t ≥1s (the display switches to the workshop level)
The "Workshop level" menu can only be called up with circuit status "circuit 15R ON".
Settings in the following menus/systems can be carried out in the workshop level menu:
- Vehicle data
- Dynamometer test
- ASSYST Plus workshop
The on-board electrical system voltage can be displayed in the "vehicle data" submenu.
