Location

The TV combination tuner (analog/digital) is located on a bracket in the luggage compartment on the left side wall behind the paneling.

Task

The TV combination tuner (analog/digital) is designed (equipped) for mobile TV reception of analog and digital TV stations that are close to the ground in different countries.

Design

The TV combination tuner (analog/digital) consists of the following components:

4-fold antenna diversity, separated into video and audio signals
3 reception modules for video/sound signals
Multinorm receiver
Multinorm signal processing
4 antenna inputs

Function

The TV combination tuner (analog/digital) is controlled via the COMAND controller unit (A40/3) and can, on model 221 with code (864) Rear entertainment system, additionally be operated and controlled via the audio/video controller control unit (N66/3). The TV combination tuner (analog/digital) is fitted with a Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) interface and communicates via this optical data bus with the other MOST components. In addition, the TV combination tuner (analog/digital) is equipped with an interface to the telematics CAN to be able to transmit the video signals to the COMAND display (A40/8). On model 221 with code (864) Rear entertainment system, it is also possible for the rear passengers during the trip to see the television picture via the left rear display (A40/5) and the right rear display (A40/6). For this purpose, the TV and video signals are transmitted to the audio/video controller control unit via a video line (Y/C connection).

In addition to their television program, some stations also offer videotext. For this, the TV combination tuner (analog/digital) is equipped with its own video text decoder.

The display of the television or video picture in the cockpit central display is only possible when the vehicle is standing. Starting at a speed of v > 5 km/h, only the acoustic signals can be played.
