1 Remove water trough overflow
2 Install bracket for brake booster vacuum pump (M56) on crossmember (1) behind right headlamp IMPORTANT See picture 1
3 Attach vacuum pump (2) to bracket IMPORTANT Make sure that the lower foot locates in the rubber grommet in the longitudinal member (see picture 2).
4 Remove old vacuum line
5 Install new vacuum line on brake booster, intake pipe and vacuum pump IMPORTANT The vacuum line has an additional vacuum connection (see picture 8) on the connection fitting to the brake booster. If a line is not connected here, the connection fitting should be sealed with a rubber cap (see Parts ordering notes).
6 Replace crankcase ventilation hose IMPORTANT Only valid for model 203.#61 /#81 with automatic transmission (code 423).
The vacuum line fitted as standard in the vehicle has a suction jet pump which is also connected to the crankcase ventilation hose.
The new vacuum line does not have such a suction jet pump and therefore does not use the connection.

7 Remove interior compartment air filter box, battery, floor mat and passenger-side carpet, A-pillar trim (right), trim under passenger-side dashboard, and passenger-side footrest
8 Remove body cable passage behind battery
9 Position electrical line for brake booster vacuum pump (BNGN and RDGN) and vacuum test wire IMPORTANT Route and connect the electrical line (3) and vacuum test wire (4) in the major assemblies compartment in such a way that they are not kinked and do not rub against other components (see picture 3).
10 Attach electrical vacuum pump control unit (N65/3) to passenger-side footrest IMPORTANT See picture 4
REFER TO SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS Wiring diagram for electronic stability program (ESP) control unit IMPORTANT Observe the circuit diagram when connecting.
IMPORTANT Connect the vacuum test wire to connection 4 of the vacuum pump control unit (N65/3).
Electrically connect the wiring harness to the vacuum pump control unit (N65/3) as follows:
  • 5-pin coupling of CAN connection and connection to front SAM control unit (N10/1): Connection 1
  • 2-pin coupling with circuit 30 (RDWH) and circuit 31 (BN): Connection 2 (center)
  • 2-pin coupling (RDGN and BNGN), vacuum pump electrical line (M56): Connection 3 (outer)
PE42.45-P-2101FA
11 Connect ground cable to inner right rocker panel (W28/2)
12 Remove driver-side floor mat and carpet, accelerator pedal, and trim under driver-side dashboard
13 Route cable set correctly from passenger-side to driver-side footwell
14 Remove interior fuse box (F34) and attach fuse holder (RDWH) at slot 37 IMPORTANT See picture 5
15 Insert CAN connector of cable set into CAN data bus adapter connector (2-pin) (X63/4) at left rocker panel IMPORTANT See picture 6
16 Remove front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1)   AR54.21-P-1260P
17 Route line to front SAM control unit (N10/1) (GN) and insert plug into slot 21 IMPORTANT See picture 7
18 Insert line of circuit 15 (BKGN) into engine compartment/FFS [RBA] connector (X25/7) on left-hand side of engine compartment IMPORTANT If the connector X25/7 is not present, the line is routed directly into the front SAM control unit (N10/1) at
slot 3, pin 1. Use contact spring
A 013 545 15 26 for this.

REFER TO SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS
  • For information on electrical connection of cable set: see circuit diagram of ESP control unit.
  • Further information on electrical vacuum pump: see documentation in WIS.

19 Install in the reverse order IMPORTANT All lines, cables and hoses must be routed correctly. Make sure that lines, cables and hoses cannot rub against other components or become kinked; if necessary, protect areas at risk using suitable material (adhesive felt tape, rubber grommets, cable ties).
