REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/Install    
DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  caused by swallowing battery acid.
Risk of injury  caused by burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries
No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and safety glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. -
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between the columns of the and position the four support plates below the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. -
1 Open engine hood   AR88.40-P-1000V
2 Disconnect ground cable from battery NOTES Insulate clamp of ground line to protect against unintentional contact of dismounted ground line with ground point of battery. AR54.10-P-0003V
NOTES -   -
3 Raise vehicle with lifting platform   AR00.60-P-1000V
4 Detach lower engine compartment paneling   AR61.20-P-1105V
5 Pull out protective cap (1) and dismantle electrical connection circuit 30 (2) at starter (M1) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA15.30-P-1001-01J 
6 Dismount cable holder (1a) from starter (M1)    
7 Dismount electrical connection terminal 50 (3) at starter (M1) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA15.30-P-1002-01J 
8 Unscrew bolts (4) of starter (M1) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA15.30-P-1003-01J 
9 Remove starter (M1) from below    
10.1 Check ring gear at flywheel for wear and damage When replacing the starter on vehicles fitted with manual transmission
IMPORTANT Rotate engine at the center bolt of the crankshaft in the direction of rotation of the engine.
 
10.2 Check ring gear on the drive plate for wear and damage When replacing the starter on vehicles fitted with automatic transmission
IMPORTANT Rotate engine at the center bolt of the crankshaft in the direction of rotation of the engine.
 
11 Install in the reverse order
