	Information on preventing damage to electronic components due to electrostatic discharge
	Risk of explosion  from electrolytic gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  caused by swallowing battery acid. Risk of injury  caused by burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries	No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and safety glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

2	Remove COMAND operating, display and control unit	Disconnect black connector (24) from COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) and strap down to vehicle's own radio wiring harness using cable ties. The black connector (24) is no longer needed.

3	Remove center console (13)	Installation:  Do not pinch or damage retrofitted iPod wiring harness with center console (13).

4	Remove cover beneath instrument panel (left)
			AR68.10-P-1500V
5	Fold back floor covering (4) on the passenger side to the rear
6	Remove impact absorber (9) from step plate (11)	Installation:  Ensure that impact absorber (9) is seated correctly in the tabs on step plate (11).
7	Unscrew nuts (12) and remove step plate (11) out of front passenger footwell
	Install
8	Retrofit iPod interface wiring harness		AZ82.60-P-0001-01VA
9	Retrofit iPod wiring harness		AZ82.60-P-0001-02VA
10	Retrofit iPod interface		AZ82.60-P-0001-03VA
11	Install remaining parts onto vehicle	Operation steps 7 up to 1.
12	Adhere mounting tray (10) into center console (13) as shown in figure using MB universal adhesive

13	Connect iPod connector (2) to iPod (18)
14	Place iPod (18) in mounting tray (10)
15	Perform version coding subsequently
