Display operating conditions, function - GF54.30-P-3041RC

General function requirements  Instrument cluster (A1) activated

Display operating conditions, general  The Display operating conditions function is comprised of the following partial functions:

Speed display function sequence, Display of engine speed function sequence, Display of coolant temperature function sequence, Display of fuel quantity function sequence, Display of travel distance function sequence, Gear and transmission mode display function sequence (with transmission 722), Engine oil level indicator function sequence.

Speed display function sequence  The wheel speeds determined via the left front rpm sensor (L6/1), right front rpm sensor (L6/2), left rear rpm sensor (L6/3) and right rear rpm sensor (L6/4) are read in by the ESP and BAS control unit (N47-5) and transmitted to the instrument cluster via the engine compartment CAN. The instrument cluster calculates the current speed from the values received. This is displayed via a stepper motor in the electronic speedometer (A1p8).

Display of engine speed function sequence  The crankshaft speed recorded by the crankshaft position sensor (L5) is read in by the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) and placed on the engine compartment CAN. The instrument cluster receives this data and actuates the tachometer accordingly via a stepper motor (A1p5).

Additional function requirements for coolant temperature display  Circuit 15 On

Display of coolant temperature function sequence  The coolant temperature recorded by the coolant temperature sensor (B11/4) is read in by the ME-SFI [ME] control unit and placed on the engine compartment CAN. The coolant temperature is shown in the upper multifunction display (A1p13).

Display of fuel quantity function sequence  The fill level is measured by the fuel level indicator sensor (B4), read in by the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) and forwarded to the instrument cluster via interior CAN. The received values are evaluated with the aid of a tank characteristic and displayed in the fuel level and reserve indicator (A1p2) via a stepper motor. If the reserve range has been reached (approx. 12.5 % of the maximum tank contents), the fuel reserve warning lamp (A1e4) comes on. When the reserve range has dropped to approx. 50 %, a gas station symbol is shown in the instrument cluster instead of the distance

Display behavior:  After circuit 15 ON, the current fill level is displayed on the fuel level indicator. In the process, the pointer runs up without being buffered. - While the vehicle is driving, the display is updated via a buffering system. - When circuit 15 is switched off, the pointer of the fuel level indicator moves back to zero.

Additional function requirements for travel distance display  Circuit 15 On

Display of travel distance function sequence  The function of the display of travel distance is comprised of several subfunctions: Calculation of travel distance, Display of main odometer reading, Display of trip distance, Saving mileage counts.

Calculation of travel distance  The wheel speed determined by the rpm sensors is read in by the ESP and BAS control unit and placed on the engine compartment CAN. The instrument cluster calculates the travel distance from values received.

Display of main odometer reading  The display appears in the upper multifunction display. The maximum displayed counter reading of the main odometer reading is 999.999.

Display of trip distance  The display appears in the upper multifunction display. The maximum displayed counter reading of the trip distance is 9999.9. If this value is achieved, the figure returns to zero. The counter reading of the trip distance can be reset manually to zero by pressing the trip odometer reset button (A1s3).

Saving mileage counts  When the battery is disconnected the main odometer reading remains stored G1) for at least five years. The trip odometer reading is also protected against data loss if the battery is disconnected.

Function sequence for gear indicator  The current gear is displayed via the gear indicator (A1p12) and the current transmission mode is displayed via the transmission mode display (A1p16)

Additional function requirements for engine oil level indicator  Circuit 15 On, Circuit 61 OFF

Engine oil level indicator function sequence  With engine 271 or 272: The engine oil level is monitored by the oil level check switch (S43). It is read in by the ME-SFI [ME] control unit. Where necessary, the ME-SFI [ME] control unit transmits a message to the instrument cluster via engine compartment CAN. As a consequence the instrument cluster displays the corresponding message in the upper multifunction display.

The data required for the current transmission mode are transmitted by the electronic selector lever module control unit (N15/5) via engine compartment CAN. The instrument cluster receives the information required for the current gear from the ETC [EGS] control unit (N15/3) (with transmission 722.6) or from the fully integrated transmission control unit (VGS) (Y3/8n4) (with transmission 722.9). On engine 113: The calculations for engine oil level measurement are made by the central gateway control unit (N93). If necessary, a message is transmitted to the instrument cluster, which displays the message in the upper multifunction display.
