Indicator lamp test 

An indicator lamp test is carried out for "terminal 15 ON". In the process all the indicator and warning lamps (provided fitted as per equipment versions and national versions) are actuated with the exception of the following lamps:

The indicator lamp test only takes place if the voltage applied at Tml. 61 is < 9 V. The alternator (G2) does not operate yet and the engine speed is < 200 rpm.

If no malfunctions are present the indicator lamps will go out as soon as the engine starts to run.

Engine running detection, Tml. 61e 

The instrument cluster (A1) combines the Controller Area Network (CAN) messages "Tml. 61" and "engine speed" to form the CAN message "Tml. 61e" (engine running detection).

The CAN message "Tml. 61e" is placed on the Controller Area Network bus class C (engine compartment) (CAN-C) by the instrument cluster (A1).

The CAN message "Tml. 61e" is required by the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) and the ESP and BAS control unit (N47-5).

The CAN message "Tml. 61e" can assume the state "HIGH" or "LOW". It is "LOW" when the voltage which is applied to Tml. 61 is < 9 V and the engine speed is < 200 rpm. In all other cases, the CAN message "Tml. 61e" is "HIGH".

Networking 

The following CAN messages are required:

The instrument cluster (A1) receives these CAN messages and processes them in the way described above.

IMPORTANT The same CAN message is used for the warning message "BATTERY/ALTERNATOR - VISIT WORKSHOP". This warning message appears in the upper multifunction display (A1p13) if "Tml. 61 LOW" exists and the engine speed is greater than 200 rpm.

IMPORTANT The CAN message "term. 61" can have the status "high" and "low". The status depends on the actual voltage at the input of the driver-side SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1). The status is "HIGH" if the voltage which is applied to Tml. 61 exceeds 9 V. The status is "LOW" if the voltage falls < 4.5 V.
