Remove/install wheels, rotate if necessary - AP40.10-P-4050V

REMOVING Removing    
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. -
1 Raise vehicle with vehicle lift    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR Lift/jack up vehicle   AR00.60-P-1000V
2.1 Pull off wheel covers Vehicles with wheel covers.  
3 Undo wheel bolts and remove wheels SPECIAL TOOL Socket wrench Fig 2
4 Check wheel bolts NOTES The round contact shoulders on the lug bolts must be free of oil and grease. Bolts with damaged threads, worn zinc plating on the radius seat or corroded radius seat must be replaced, otherwise they may shear off.  
5 Check tires for damage and condition, and measure depth of tread   -
6 Check disk wheels IMPORTANT Checking for:
  • contamination

  • to ensure that radius seats are free of oil and grease
  • Damage to centering, radius seats and rim flanges
  • Corrosion of wheel contact surface
 
7 Check wheel hub, wheel bolt thread and brake disk bowl at the wheel contact surface for contamination and corrosion IMPORTANT Clean corroded surfaces with a wire brush or emery cloth.
NOTES Contaminated or corroded wheel bolt thread must be cleaned or recut. Remaining contaminants or corrosion in the thread prevent the necessary preload force of the wheel bolt from being reached, despite the specified torque being reached.
The wheel hub should be replaced if the wheel bolt thread is damaged.
 
INSTALLING Install     
8.1 Rotate road wheels if necessary, maintaining the correct running direction Except vehicles with mixed tires on front and rear axle.  
    IMPORTANT Depending on the state of wear after a distance between 5 000 and 10 000 km.  
9 Slide on road wheels and tighten the wheel bolts TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA40.10-P-1001-01A 
10 Lower vehicle    
11 Rectify tire pressure on all wheels IMPORTANT If there is a loss of tire pressure: determine cause and replace the tire if necessary.  
12.1 Fit wheel covers Vehicles with wheel covers.  
13.1 Activate tire pressure loss warning: On vehicles with tire pressure loss warning, code 477:  
    Only when replacing a wheel, changing tires or altering the tire pressure, refer to: ↓  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR Perform adjustments to the control system Activate tire pressure loss warning: AR54.30-P-1000-02RAV
